Interview With Author Maggie Keefe
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am the author of 2 silly poetry books for kids, Day Dreaming and One Little Voice.
I resides in the northeast kingdom of Vermont for half the year escaping to Sarasota, Florida, when the long, cold Vermont winter sets in. What could be better than spending summer in the mountains and winter by the beach AND writing silly, quirky children’s books?
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
As a child I loved using my imagination, making up stories and giving my stuffed animal a personality and a voice. I have had so much fun developing the characters in ‘The Clever Cat Chronicles’. The first book in the series has been do much fun, I have become very attached to my animal friends in the story. I am currently working on the second book in the series and really enjoy spending time with my imaginary pals.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I will find myself developing my characters while taking a walk, they often come to me when I am alone. We all need some alone time now and then and I like to use this time to make up stories.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seus, Roald Dahl. Great childrens writers, stories that are entertaining for children and can be enjoyed by adults as well.
What are you working on now?
The first in the series – The Clever Cat Chronicles
Trouble’s Tale is the story of family, friendship and a very clever cat!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have my own website- www.maggie-keefe.com as well as an authors page on Amazon, a Facebook account, an Instagram account and a presence on good reads. I think they are all important and help contribute to sales.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write, get it down on paper. You can go back and polish it up later. Do not allow yourself to become paralyzed with the goal of perfection, let the ideas flow!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Optimism is a perfectly legitimate response to failure.
Stephen King
What are you reading now?
Last book was Hello Beautiful which I really enjoyed. Coming from a family with three sisters I found it very relatable. I am trying to finish up my latest book so have not allowed myself much time to indulge but am looking forward to getting back into reading. I enjoy escaping into a good novel and there are plenty to choose from.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to add at least 2 more books to The Clever Cat Chronicles. I have become quite attached to my animal friends and enjoy spending time with them and developing their story. I also have an idea for a new series about a girl named Sally Freckleface, my imaginary friend as a child. I will see where it takes me.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Grapes of wrath, The Good Earth, Alice in Wonderland, War and Peace (never read it, should keep me busy for a while)
