Interview With Author Robin HAWDON
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have been an actor for over twenty years (who nearly became James Bond), a playwright for fifty years, with plays on in the West End and Broadway and forty different countries, and a novelist for twenty years, with half a dozen books on Amazon, some sort-listed for prizes. In advanced age I now concentrate on the books because I love the private intensity of working in my quiet spaces wherever I am in the world.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Dinner With Churchill. Just published. Inspired by my stage play of the same name due for production next year. It concerns an extraordinary occasion at the start of World War II, when Winston Churchill and his wife Clementine entertained his arch political enemy Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and wife Anne to a private dinner at Admiralty House. The event caused much comment around the corridors of power, but there is no record of what happened during that unique evening!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No. I write anywhere and everywhere whenever I have a new project. I have a blog for writers on my website titled 'How To Write', which covers all aspects of the writer's life and challenges.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to name.
What are you working on now?
My next book. Don't know enough about it yet to comment.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My website robinhawdon.com is visited regularly by book lovers and theatre companies alike.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
See my blog.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Follow your instincts, not the advice of others.
What are you reading now?
Sebastian Faulks – uneven but great writer.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I never know.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh heavens, that would take too long to think about.
