Interview With Author Henna Vale
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a Finnish romance writer. I’ve been writing for close to 20 years now, and my books are mainly romance. I have written a total of four books, Hidden Love is the first one that’s been translated to English and another one is coming in 2024. I write HEAs, and some of my books are LGBTQ+.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest published book is called Hidden Love. It’s a story about two friends, Vera and Ian, and the choices we must make to be happy. This book has two different storylines. One, the main one, is about friendship, roommates falling in love, and a fake relationship because I’m a sucker for those kind of stories myself. So that theme was inspired by the write-what-you-want-to-read-principle 🙂
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I get most of my ideas in the evenings before I go to sleep and my mind gets to wonder freely. I’m awfully private about my writing, but when I get the words to the page, that feeling disappears and I like to hear what others think.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
There’s so many… To name three who write in English I’d say Elle Kennedy, Mariana Zapata and Sally Thorne. I love to read HEA slow-burn romance that’s not too angsty and strong, personal characters. So many that kind of books have influenced me one way or the other.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently finishing the second part of the Hidden Love -series and drafting some ideas for the third part. The second part is an enemies to lovers -romance about the lead singer in a band and his former friend. Their paths cross after years spent apart and that’s where the fun part begins 🙂 So I’m writing that banter now and dreaming about a romance between a drummer and his bodyguard.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to stay in touch with my readers and I hope they like to hear from me as much as I like talking with them. About the websites I’m not sure yet as this is my first book that’s been translated to English and I don’t have much experience about them yet.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Write some more, and when you feel that writer’s block, write again. Anything. It’s always easier to write when you do it regularly. You can always erase the stupid parts later, but sometimes they lead to the best results.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Kill your darlings – mean in your writing. If something doesn’t work, don’t keep it.
What are you reading now?
Baby Mine by Kennedy Fox
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d love to take some time off from my work and have some more time to write.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Uu! I have no idea. Really long romance books that are slow-burn and sweet, maybe something by Mariana Zapata. I have on my tbr-list Beyond the Sea by Keira Andrews that actually takes place on a desert island so maybe that would either give some good advise on how to get out from that island or be like seawater in my wounds, I don’t know.
