Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an experienced engineer that has written many technical papers over the years, and won awards for being able to communicate complex technical topics to non-technical folks. In addition to the latest book, “Navigating Travel Baseball”, I have also written a comical book on my failures as a landlord. Check that book out if you want a good laugh, it’s called “A Fool’s Guide to Landlording”.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Navigating Travel Baseball – 7U to 14U – What Parents and Players Need to Know Right Now”
We spent over 8 years in the travel baseball system with our son, and we learned so much over the years. There can be so much stress and so many things to know, year by year, that my son and I thought we could share our experiences so that others would know exactly what to expect every year. You would be surprised to know what goes on with other parents, with coaches, with umpires, the whole thing. We take you through a year by year discussion of what you will encounter and how to handle things so you have the best experiences, and avoid the nasty stuff.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, it takes me months and years to develop an outline for my books, and then finally when I have that the way I want it, I write compulsively until the entire book falls out of my head and onto paper. I then spend months editing the book and ultimately my wife and son take over the editing so that everything falls into place. My style is that of a story teller, even for my technical articles
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Love Stephen King, believe it or not. I read everything, so I don’t have any real favorites.
What are you working on now?
Nothing, I just finished this book and I am exhausted. I have some other book ideas that I will begin researching in the next few months. Nothing concrete right now.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon does a great job.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up when you get stuck. Write what you know, and write the parts of the book you find the most fun. You will surprised how the rest will fill in and how motivated you will be.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write what you know.
