Interview With Author Bach Ly
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Self published Author of two books adventures at a lopsided pond and Soy sauce fingers, I’m an emerging new voice who wants to bring a sense of freshness and genuine reflections to the writing world. As the mother of two wonderful girls, I want them to see what an empowered focused woman can do.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Soy sauce fingers: poems celebrating motherhood is my latest book and it’s a project of love towards my daughter and the journey my first pregnancy took me on. What started out as letters to my daughter took on a life of it’s own and materialized as a physical book to be enjoyed.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
In the morning, I do three pages of word vomit which means for three pages, I write whatever comes to mind. Sounds, songs, complaints, gibberish, whatever my brain is doing that morning. I picked this practice up from the artist’s way. Then at night before I go to bed, I write while my children sleep. These daily two practices serves me well.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The poet Rumi has influenced my poetry style and my fiction is styled after Dean Koontz.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on a non fiction book that caters to helping writers resolve blockages and imposter symptoms.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve been using my newsletter and own website to promote my books. My Instagram is great for connecting with readers.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
When I first began writing, I was an island and wanted to do it all by myself. This need to control every aspect of my book which was tied up in my sense of worth only caused me headaches and heartbreak. Once I discovered BSFF, I was able to release my need and change my beliefs. Once I trusted others and hired professionals to handle other aspects of publishing, my life got much better.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Advice from Stephen King, rapid release your work so you can find your tribe faster.
What are you reading now?
At this moment I’m reading a collection of science fiction short stories edited by Orson Scott card.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I would like to break into two genres with two different series. One serie is a nonfiction to aid other writers mentally and a scifi romance serie which will be my first drive into the world of fiction.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I could only take books, I would appreciate a book on forging wild food and bushcraft, a book on raft building, and a collection of Rumi poetry.
