Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a semi-retired certified personal trainer that made a career change to clinical herbalist several years back. When I was younger, I thought working out hard and eating “clean” was the way to being healthy all the time, and over the decades I have realized there is significantly more involved than that. So my first book is on being able to fit working out into actual daily mom life, and my current book- Backyard Herbal Remedies- is the first in a series of books that hopefully can inspire and empower people to become herbalists in their own homes and communites.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Backyard Herbal Remedies: A Beginners Guide to Identifying, Foraging, and Wildcrafting Herbal Remedies Straight From Nature is my latest book. My intent is to make a series of five books, each focusing on 15-25 herbs. When I decided to become an herbalist, I had no background. Nothing to anchor any of the concepts on. It was unfamilar and overwhelming. I thought I needed to learn all the things that all the plants could do immediately in order to be a good herbalist. That’s not how it works. You start small. You learn a handful of plants and you learn them well, learn all their properties, learn everything they can do. Once you are very solid and familiar with that handful of herbal friends, you can add a few more, and a few more. THAT is how you should learn herbs. So what I want to do with this book and this series is to bring Herbalism to people who are interested but don’t know where to start. I want to encourage them that they don’t have to know EVERYTHING right off the bat to start, just start small and go at your own pace.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I was a fantastic formal writer in college but apparently people don’t particularly enjoy that. so now I just try to write like I would be teaching you if you were walking with me in my herb garden. This often involves movie quotes.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
When it comes to my niche the styles are all over the board. Many of them can make your head swim as an new herbalist. Lesley Tierra’s Healing with the Herbs of Life was the first book I got that explained the concepts of herbalism in a way I could understand. I hope I did as good of a job, though my book is not nearly as in depth. Rosalee’s Alchemy of Herbs is another, as she presented herbs in a way that everyday people could incorporate them into their life, and I have recommended that book to so many clients.

What are you working on now?
My next book in the series, which doesn’t actually have a working title yet, will be Cupboard Medicine- those herb and spices you already have in your kitchen that you can use medicinally! It was actually one of my reviewers that suggested it. I have four different books I was deciding on, and she pointed out that my first book was on plants you can find right now in your back yard, and the next logical step would be herbs you can find right now in your kitchen. Her point was that if people learn 40 herbs that they did not have to go out of their way to plant or find, then they would be hooked as herbalist and take the next step to planting a tea garden or foraging in the meadows.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still in my first “real” book launch so the jury is still out on that! I had good luck promoting in facebook groups, but I was already an active member in several herb groups before I even wrote the book!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Lol I feel like I am still in that new author category…. Does any one have extra advice for me?

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Know who (or whose) you are.

If you know this, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of you. Even the guy that gives you a two star pubby review.

What are you reading now?
The Practice of the Presence of God; Dragon Rises, Red Bird Flies; and Rainbow of the Soul

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to get this second book in my series out by October. Also, my late father as his dying wish had wanted me to get his book published. To be honest, that was one of the biggest catalysts for me to even look into self publishing. So I hope to also get that going as well!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hmmmm. That’s like asking an herbalist “if you could only choose five herbs….”
-Bible
– A local field guide so I could eat and not die!
-the last few books in the Robert Jordan “Wheel of Time” series, as I would finally have time to finish it if I was stranded!

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an author, educator, backyard scientist, and editor. Someone asked me once what I meant by “backyard scientist” and that’s a whole profile in itself. I have been rehabilitating wildlife and raising baby squirrels for years, but no more. Our licensor stopped, so we had to stop. I have also sent two experiments to be conducted on the ISS. I am always curious and learning about the natural world. So as a teacher, I teach both Science and English to middle and high schoolers. I have two pet pigs and six cats and a hairy ape of a son and a metal-head husband. All nerds, even the pigs!

At this point I have published two novels, one going live in September, and one (final in a series) later this year. I also have a guide to world-building out, AstroFiction, and an update and two companion books, BioFiction and RoboFiction, will release in October. Although I primarily write action-adventure SF, I also have a historical fantasy series on Ream Stories, “Born to Valhalla.”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recently published book is The Warrior’s Shade, second book in the Saxen Saga. A version of the first book, The Handler’s Gambit, released years ago, but I rewrote and re-released it in November of 2023 *after* (oddly) writing the sequel on a whim. I just woke up one day burning with the next book, wrote it in 9 days including while on a cruise ship in the Keys, and then sat on it while I retro’ed the first book so that they would work together. “Shade” was then revised several times.

As for inspiration, I was working at the time at a blockchain identity company, which triggered thoughts about hacking, identity, and politics. Thus my MC, who is a tactical genius in a space fleet, had a whole new realm of adventure to explore and deal with. Unfortunately, he also has survivor’s guilt, which added a lot of depth to the identity crisis.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I pants fast and furious(ly). I believe in a fast first draft that can be edited for however long it takes to make it make sense. That includes a lot of additional writing. I don’t get writer’s block, though I do get writer’s blah. I like to write on my phone, though I type over 250wpm so it’s more efficient to be at my desk.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been a huge fan of Timothy Zahn even before he wrote Star Wars stuff. Blackcollar, for example, was right up my teenage alley for military structure and action. I fell into cyberpunk in the 80s, loved Ursula LeGuin and so on, and a short story that really hit me hard because it was so visual and real to me (and was 100% predictive of influencers today) was “Pretty Boy Crossover” by Pat Cadigan. I was always a fan of G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Voltron with the cats. And… Firefly. Best show ever.

What are you working on now?
All the things! Top priority is to get the latest book out. It’s a standalone dystopian SF novel with a sweet friendship and, as usual, a ton of military style action. Then I’ll continue writing the third in the Saxen Saga series, The Tempest’s Fury. It’s about 60% done, but it’s taking longer than usual because I wrote book 2 into a weird ending that I’m struggling to unhinge.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still new at promoting things, but my newsletter is growing (bit.ly/moon-news) and I enjoy running a silly instagram promo profile. However, my favorite promotion is podcasts. I love being a guest on podcasts. So don’t be afraid to hit me up if you have or know of one 🙂

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I always hated when authors would give the advice “just write,” but it’s true. Just effing write. Write anything. Use prompts. Use photos. Practice. If you have a burning story to tell, tell it. Don’t worry about it being perfect. It won’t be no matter how slow or deliberate you are. So just burn it out of you and then focus on editing. After having a manuscript, There. Is. Nothing. More. Important. Than. A. Good. Editor. Worth their weight in gold.

What are you reading now?
I love reading ARCs and betas. Probably because I love editing and having opinions on books. Right now I’m reading PAX MACHINA by Greg Sorber, whom I met by chance at a con.

What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next? More writing! I wish I could do nothing but write all day. (Who invented jobs and chores!?) With my series completed…ish… I have many more stories to tell, both in that same universe and in others. The MC’s origin story is already half written. I am considering turning my stand-alone into a screenplay.

But I also want to work with other writers as an editor and coach, focusing on world-building and creating consistent systems and structures for amazing worlds in books, games, VR, movies, etc.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
World’s hardest question! I have no idea. I would rather have movies or TV shows. But I’d probably take some classics from the 80s and 90s. I know there are stories that have made me love characters so much I wanted to marry them, but I can’t think of them at the moment. Those would probably make me sad, though, so… maybe I would want funny books to keep me from feeling sad. I think I’m over-thinking this. Oops, I missed the boat, no books for me!

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello! I’m Lil Rustle, a creative author and illustrator passionate about crafting books that ignite curiosity and bring joy to young readers. My pen name, Lil Rustle, evokes a sense of lightness and playfulness, much like the gentle rustling of leaves in the wind, which is reflected in my work.

With a background in architecture, I approach storytelling with a unique perspective, blending a deep understanding of colors and shapes into my creations. This background has greatly influenced my “Colors and Shapes” series, which includes three vibrant books: Colors in Circles, Colors in Triangles, and Colors in Squares. Each book provides an imaginative exploration of color and form, designed to inspire young minds and foster a love for learning. The series helps children learn about colors and shapes while encouraging them to observe and identify these elements in their environment.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book in my Colors and Shapes series is Colors in Squares. It builds on the engaging approach introduced in the first book, Colors in Circles. Colors in Circles was inspired by a childhood book that began with a simple concept, such as “A House,” and gradually added details like “A Red House.” This inspired my approach of starting with a simple object, like a red balloon, to introduce and explore colors and shapes.

In Colors in Squares, I continue this approach by focusing on different colors found in square-shaped objects within an indoor environment. This contrasts with the outdoor scenes depicted in Colors in Circles and Colors in Triangles. By exploring colors and geometric forms in diverse settings, this book aims to offer an interactive and enjoyable way for children to learn.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I often start by sketching and brainstorming the story simultaneously, allowing the illustrations and narrative to evolve together. Once I have a draft, I add rhyming text to complement the visuals. I then review and adjust the composition, cycling back and forth between the story, illustrations, and text until everything—story, visuals, and rhyme—comes together seamlessly.
At times, if I’m not in the flow of illustrating, I’ll focus on developing the rhyming text, and vice versa. This flexibility helps me maintain creativity and ensures that each element of the book aligns perfectly.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Interestingly, I started working on my first book without direct references to other authors or books. However, my inspiration comes from a childhood memory of a book whose title and author I can’t quite recall. This early reading experience had an impact on my approach and creative direction, influencing how I integrate storytelling and illustrations in my series.

What are you working on now?
At the moment, I’m taking a pause to focus on marketing my books. As an indie author, it’s important to handle all aspects of promotion and visibility myself. Once I’ve made some progress in this area, I’m considering creating a special Christmas Edition of the Colors and Shapes series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still exploring the best methods for promoting my books. Currently, I’m focusing on sharing through social media, running free eBook promotions, and participating in interviews, such as this one with Awesomegang!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
s someone who is relatively new to the field, I’m still learning and figuring out what works best. I would greatly appreciate advice from more experienced authors! However, one thing I’ve found valuable is to stay persistent and continuously refine your craft. I’ve learned that building an audience and navigating the publishing world takes time, so maintaining dedication and a willingness to learn are crucial.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard is to stay persistent and continuously refine your craft. Persistence helps you push through challenges, while constantly improving your skills ensures that your work evolves and resonates more deeply with your audience.

What are you reading now?
I’m about to start reading Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions. A good friend recommended it and kindly lent it to me. I’m looking forward to exploring its concepts, as it might inspire further development for my future books.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to continue writing and developing more books in the future. I’m excited to explore new ideas and themes, and I’m looking forward to expanding my Colors and Shapes series as well as creating new projects that will engage and inspire readers.

If I were stranded on a deserted island, I would bring:
1. Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions – Its unique exploration of dimensions and perspectives could ignite fresh ideas for both illustrations and storytelling.

2. The Great Paper Caper – This imaginative and creative story might inspire innovative approaches to writing and art.

3. Under the Spell of the Moon – This collection by great illustrators would provide both inspiration and education on various artistic techniques.

These books would offer a wealth of ideas and help refine my skills in both illustration and writing.

My first book that I published was inspired by Stephen King his horror style I hope to be just as good someday. The Terminator movies as well as short circuit

It’s a guide to be coming a Christian in the form f getting a Job truly inspired by God has lots of Bible references I hope it will inspire all who read it in all walks of there life being new to being a Christian or some one who been thinking about it to someone who has been one for some time

I have some ideas some I have to see if I can do them find out about laws others will come with time I have a lot of ideas stirring

I write middle grade novels in two genres, contemporary and fantasy. As of summer 2024, I’ve published four contemporary novels and four fantasy novels.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called From the Desk of Lizzie Lazowski. It is a companion novel to one of my previous books, The Boy Who Painted the World. That book has lots of fans, so I was interested in continuing the story in some capacity. Since that story felt complete, and was not in need of a sequel, I decided to write a story about one of the side characters. From the Desk of Lizzie Lazowski is an epistolary novel about a middle-schooler going through life changes.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, I’m pretty boring. I do write outside sometimes. Is that unusual?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am influenced by the work of Gordon Korman, Sharon Creech, Kevin Sands, and Jonathan Stroud.

What are you working on now?
My next project is going to be another fantasy novel. It’s going to be a fun treasure hunt through a fantasy rainforest.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I try to get a BookBub deal when I can. I also have my own email list that I’ve growing over the years.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write a lot, and then write some more. Find a plotting system that works for you. (Yes, even if you don’t outline, you need to understand structure.) Get honest feedback on your work. And lastly, write what you love.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
As far as writing advice: your character should be forced to make a moral choice.

What are you reading now?
I’m re-reading the Lockwood and Co series by Jonathon Stroud. I don’t enjoy stories about ghosts, but these books are written so well that I still enjoy them.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d like to write a series that’s a bit longer. So far, I’ve only written 2-book series. I’m going to try for 3- and 4-book series in the future.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If there are any books on how to survive a desert island and how to build a boat, I’ll take those.

My latest book is Hennizi Da Don – The Golden Record what inspired it was my love for music also my love for the music industry as well.
Also the trials and tribulations of Hennizi Da Don in the music industry also that gets all something to believe in music.

No there pretty much straight forward with my writing habits, they are not indifferent it is rather consistent.

What are you working on now?
I’m just taking in some experience with the next books I wish to write , and look into what works predominantly for me.

Wishing on a star maybe but rather just believing in me that it can excel to new horizons well but truthfully speaking marketing on social media.

It is not easy to become a author but theres fun with it as well take the journey see were the road leads you.

Do what makes Henry happy and follow the dreams there of .

The Sea Queen well that was the last book I did read maybe i’ll look into a audio book soon about the music industry.

I want to write more poetry books I like writing those type of books, those books interests’ me.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Paolo Danese. I am originally from Italy but have been living in Asia for the past 13 years. I have now published four books, two in Italian and two in English, with the latter being the rewritten and translated versions of my Italian novels. They are epic fantasy novels, broadly speaking.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “Rise of the Nemesis”, the first book in a planned series called “Fate of the Demigods”. It is a dark epic fantasy with hints of grimdark, high fantasy, and post-apocalyptic sci-fi. It was inspired by reading the likes of Joe Abercrombie, Dan Simmons, the classics like Lord of the Rings, and broad readings across genres, including poetry and loads of non-fiction in areas like philosophy, politics, neuroscience, history, and more.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
As much as I would love to be a more regular writer, I am a “crammer”. I wrote the 160,000 words first draft for my upcoming novel in a sleepless month and a half. Partly because of family and work commitments, sure, partly it just seems I only know how to dive in and hold my breath until the job is done. Editing, luckily, I can take my time and pace myself.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read broadly across genres. I grew up with JRR Tolkien and Terry Brooks in terms of fantasy reading (and loads of Dungeons & Dragons), but my favorites include sci-fi from the likes of Dan Simmons and Arthur C Clarke, poetry by Fernando Pessoa, introspective literature like the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and loads more.

What are you working on now?
I am taking the 160,000 words draft I mentioned and slowly re-writing/editing it out. I have a strong feeling it may end up being two novels instead of one once all is said and done, which would do more justice to the epic scale of the events told and the characters’ fates decided there.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I suck at all of it, to be honest. I enjoy posting on Twitter and I pay for Amazon ads when I can, but I am far from having figured it out!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing. Nothing else matters.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I’d say the same, to just keep writing. And, of course, “the first draft of anything is shit”.

What are you reading now?
Biocentrism by Robert Lanza, Who’s in Charge?: Free Will and the Science of the Brain by Robert Gazzaniga, and Literary Theory for Robots: How Computers Learned to Write by Dennis Yi Tenen.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Depending on how I will feel after I complete the current epic fantasy series (and how it performs, of course), I will need to decide whether to embrace my eclectic tastes and explore writing work in other genres, or stick with fantasy.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Tainan, a historical city on Taiwan’s southwest coast. After graduating from National Taiwan University, I came to the United States in my early 20s on a student visa to pursue graduate studies.
After completing my master’s in microbiology from the University of North Texas, I worked as a clinical researcher in a hematology lab at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for two years. Then, I applied for admission and enrolled at the Southern California College of Optometry, now Marshall B. Ketchum University. In retrospect, this choice was one of the most consequential and rewarding decisions I have ever made.
Practicing optometry in Southern California for over 30 years allowed me to engage with a diverse background of patients from various races and cultures. These interactions deepened my appreciation that, regardless of our outward appearance or personal preferences, the basic anatomy of our eyes is the same. Shall we refer to the human race as one race? I also realized that every patient had a unique story to tell. Their eyes were windows into their souls, reflecting their experiences and emotions. This awakening inspired my passion for storytelling. Writing is the art of meaningfully sharing with readers—the writer’s thoughts, heart, and soul. It is also an exercise in attentive observation, a journey of curiosity and intensity.
I devoted my spare time to writing over the last decade. As of today, I have written and published eight books. My genres include romantic fiction, short stories, memoirs, self-help, and educational nonfiction.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book series titled Talking About Adolescence, How to Navigate through Adolescence Successfully and Have a Happy Life.

Book 2: Supercharge Your Body and Brain Power
This series of books is written as an easy-to-read and accessible resource for teens and young adults; it tackles the distinct challenges that today’s adolescents encounter. As a mother and healthcare provider who has worked closely with teenagers and young adults, I’ve witnessed firsthand their struggles during this critical developmental period. From grappling with mental health issues like anxiety and depression to navigating the pressures of social media and peer influence, the journey to adulthood can be tumultuous.
My inspiration for writing this series stems from personal encounters with heartbreaking events involving young people, such as instances of violence and suicide. These experiences stressed the urgent need for accessible resources and positive guidance during adolescence. I felt compelled to create the Talking About Adolescence series to equip teens and young adults with the tools and support they need to overcome obstacles and optimize their potential.
My objective is to inspire adolescents (teens and young adults) to navigate adolescence effectively by sharing relatable experiences and practical guidance. By encouraging open dialogue and providing valuable resources, we can work together to create a community where all adolescents feel nurtured and empowered to thrive.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Because of my personal responsibilities and duties, I do not have a scheduled time to write during the day. I mostly write after 9 p.m. until midnight. The late-night quietness allows me to focus deeply, and something about those hours helps me tap into my creativity and think more clearly.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
During my school years, I responded best to textbooks with concise, well-structured content. I’m working on Book 3 of the Talking About Adolescence series, Love, Dating, Sex, Relationships, and Life Beyond Romance. Although it’s still in the research and outline stage, I’m deeply committed to exploring these critical topics. This book aims to provide adolescents with practical guidance on navigating the complexities of relationships and understanding the intricacies of love and intimacy. My goal is to empower young people to build healthy, meaningful connections.
This book will be valuable for older teens and young adults, as well as parents and educators, who want to support youth through these complex and thrilling life experiences.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have used social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram. While I would not consider myself a social media enthusiast, these platforms have allowed me to connect with other indie authors, offering mutual encouragement and inspiration.

However, I am still experimenting with different strategies to find what works best. The journey to discover the most effective promotion methods is ongoing. I am continually exploring new strategies, such as leveraging book bloggers and online communities, to expand my reach and build a loyal readership.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I was a new author about a decade ago. When I reflect on my journey as an author, I have the following thoughts:
First, immerse yourself in the world of reading. It is not just a pastime, but a crucial part of your writing journey. Exploring a wide range of books gives you a deeper understanding of different styles and genres. This understanding will enhance your writing skills and broaden your creative horizons and perspective.
Second, pay attention to the world around you. Listen to everyday conversations and observe the details of how people communicate. This will help you craft dialogue that feels authentic and relatable. I used to bring a small notebook to jot down whatever might improve a scene’s plot and dialogue. Lately, I have used my cell phone to take notes.
Third, write in the genre that resonates with you. Choose a genre where you feel most comfortable and passionate. Writing from a place of comfort and enthusiasm will make your work more compelling and genuine.
Lastly, believe in your voice and stay persistent. The journey of an indie author may be full of challenges and disappointments, but with dedication, you can create something truly unique and impactful.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
E. B. White’s letter, “Hang on to Hope,” to a man who had lost hope is one of the most profound pieces of advice I’ve encountered. This simple yet powerful reminder of resilience and optimism in facing life’s challenges—even in the darkest times, holding on to hope—can provide the strength to persevere.

What are you reading now?
I am currently immersed in scholarly research for Book 3 of Talking About Adolescence. My focus is on topics related to love, dating, sex, relationships, and the complexities of life beyond romance. This project is involved and keeps me thoroughly engaged. While I am not reading a specific book at the moment, I am deeply engaged with academic articles and studies that will inform and enrich the content of this upcoming book.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am currently focused on completing the Talking About Adolescence series, but I am also exploring other creative outlets. Photography and acting have always been my passions, and I am considering how to incorporate these interests into my writing or potentially develop new projects in these areas. The intersection of art, storytelling, and human connection is a fascinating space to explore.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I were stranded on a desert island, the first book I would bring is In the Kingdom of Ice by Hampton Sides. Its timeless tale of survival and exploration would be inspiring, comforting, and captivating in such a setting. I would also bring a couple of books by Kazuo Ishiguro, whose deeply reflective and often melancholy narratives would provide profound introspection during quiet moments. I would also choose a thriller by Michael Connelly for some gripping escapism. Lastly, I would bring along some books by my indie author friends to support their work and enjoy their unique voices, reminding me of the supportive writing community I am part of.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written three books. My most recent book–Courting the Sun: A Novel of Versailles–is historical fiction and it’s my first solo effort. Previously I co-wrote with my sister-in-law Mary Joy Johnson two mystery novels under the penname M. J. Williams: On the Road to Death’s Door and On the Road to Where the Bells Toll.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My new book is Courting the Sun: A Novel of Versailles. It was loosely inspired by research I did into my own family roots dating back to 17th century France. The premise asks: Can a free-spirited country girl navigate the world of intrigue, illicit affairs, and power-mongering that is the court of Louis XIV—the Sung King–and still keep her head? Of course, it is fiction. While my 7th and 8th great-grandmothers were part of the program created by King Louis XIV’s program to send women to Canada to populate his country, none of them lived the life that my character, Sylvienne, lived.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
The weird thing for me is that often, right after I climb into bed, and just before I fall asleep, a scene will come into my mind, sometimes with bits of dialogue or important details. If I don’t write them down right away, I’ll forgot I ever even had the idea, much less the details of the scene. So I have pens that light up so I can write in my notebook in the dark. Often I wake up in the morning and am surprised to discover a scene written out my bedside notebook. Once I look at it, I’m like, “Oh, yeah, I guess I did write that.” But if I hadn’t written it down, out of sight, out of mind. It’s like waking up to discover literary fairies have left scenes for me while I slept.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read pretty widely, both fiction and non-fiction. My early influences were J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and Robert Heinlein. More recently, I’ve enjoyed reading historical fiction by Margaret George, Jennifer Chiaverini, Tracy Chevalier, Alison Weir, and C.S. Harris, and more contemporary novels by Rebecca Makkai and futuristic fare by Emily St. John Mandel.

What are you working on now?
I have two works-in-progress. One is a sequel to Courting the Sun. It takes my main character, Sylvienne d’Aubert, from France in 17th century to New France (Canada) where life is very different for her. The other is the first book in a historical mystery series, set in 17th century Paris. (Can you see a theme here? I did so much research for the first book, I didn’t want to waste it!) My character, Genevieve Damise, is the daughter of a blind apothecary who dream of becoming a physician, but ends up solving murders.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook is my best method for promoting my books. I have a solid, yet growing presence there both with my author and my personal pages. I’m also pretty active on Instagram where I promote other authors and their books. And I have a monthly newsletter that is growing in popularity. Readers can subscribe via my website.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors is two-pronged. 1) If you are unpublished and still writing, hone your craft and build your network of literary friends and potential readers. 2) If you are newly published, network, network, network. Put your name out there, do library and bookstore gigs, despite how few people show up. Get some bookmarks made with your book cover and website address, and give them out at every event. Create a social media presence (whichever one you feel most comfortable with), and put a newsletter out. Oh! And get started on that second book!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I think it’s the same advice I give to others—network, network, network. And start that second book.

What are you reading now?
I’ve just started the novel South of Happily by G.A. Anderson. It’s humorous women’s fiction. And I’m also reading The Emotional Craft of Fiction: How to Write the Story Beneath the Surface by Donald Maass. A writer can never stop honing their skill set.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to keep plugging away at my historical fiction and historical mystery novels. I entered Courting the Sun into the Book Pipeline for film adaptation. I have some experience writing screenplays, would love to adapt my book to a feature film or a TV mini-series. And I’ve been toying with writing theatrical plays. Would love to see something of mine acted out on the stage.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Well, first I’d take along a blank notebook. I need to be able to create my own musings. I’d also take along the Lord of the Rings trilogy. That can never get old. And I think I’d take along a book or two of poetry, maybe Song of Myself by Walt Whitman and This is the Honey by Kwame Alexander.

I was born in Nigeria but grew up in London. I am the author of “Yes You Can Ola!”, a children’s picture book that was released early this year.

So far I have only written one book but I look forward to writing more!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Yes You Can Ola! was inspired by my childhood. I grew up as a child with lots of self-doubts. Nigeria was a very competitive environment for children. Of course for some children, it was amazing but for others like myself, it was difficult to navigate. However, my mum was such an inspiration and extremely supportive of me, especially when I feel like I did not have the natural capacity to do simple tasks such as riding a bycle or compeititng a sport it events or learning to spell.

Ultimately, the idea of the book is to encourage children to feel it is okay not to get things wrong when trying an activity or skill for the first time.

Apart from trying to inspire children, the book includes a nursery rhyme, and I hope they sing it with their parents as much as I loved singing it with my mum as a child

Not really but it can take time to put my ideas on a paper.

To be honest, I am still navigating the marketing process.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Portsmouth, England (no, I won’t tell you the date!), but I’ve lived in the USA for over 40 years.
During the 50’s and early 60’s my sister and I were at a convent boarding school in southern England. I can still see us in the convent under the bedcovers after lights out with a flashlight reading the Romances of Georgette Heyer.
My sister died unexpectedly in 2018. All my books are dedicated to her.
So far, I’ve written 16 Regency Romances, a Contemporary Romance and two Crime Romances.
I’m 77 this year and plan, to paraphrase Tennyson, To write beyond the sunset, and the baths /Of all the western stars, until I die.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, I Have Always Loved You, a Second Chance Regency Romance, is due out on August 30 (my birthday!). It’s a bit different for me because it’s a first person narrative from two points of view. I challenged myself to write that way and it was hard! All my other books are in the third person single POV, and as the narrator you know everything everyone knows. In the first person, you only know what the person talking knows. I kept having to stop myself and say “How would he/she know that??”, then cross it out and start again!
The book is about a man and a woman who meet in their twenties and don’t see each other again for many years. For her it was love at first sight, for him… well, he has to learn what love is before he can be truly happy.
My books are not totally serious; they have a strain of humor that stops them getting dark. But the history is real, I do a lot of research, and I deal with topics I think are important.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, I can write anywhere, any time. It’s a refuge for me. If I’m stressed by something, I can always forget it when I write. And I never have writer’s block!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Jane Austen, of course, and the beloved Georgette Heyer, who I read and re-read constantly. But I also love Barbara Pym, who is less well known and a bit dated now, but a wonderful, witty writer. I also love PG Wodehouse (of Jeeves and Wooster fame), who is incredibly funny and makes me laugh out loud.

What are you working on now?
I have just translated an Alphonse Daudet short story from the French (I used to be a French professor). I plan on publishing it for free on Amazon (KDP) for Christmas. I’ll probably do a paperback book as well, but that can’t be free because of printing costs.
It’s a Christmas story about a priest whose acolyte (assistant) is inhabited by the devil on Christmas eve, when the poor priest has to say the traditional three consecutive Masses. The acolyte/devil tempts him with the sights and smells of the Christmas feast that comes immediately after the services, and makes him babble the words, miss bits out, and generally rush headlong into, as Daudet says, eternal damnation.
I know it doesn’t sound like much fun, but really, it is! The descriptions of 16th century people, the food, the scenes of the priest falling over himself to finish the three Masses in record time is very amusing. I had fun translating it.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use all the normal social media and a number of book promotion sites like Awesome Gang. I’m an indie writer. that means I have no publisher to do things for me. So I have to promote, promote, promote!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. I’ve heard of folks who take ten years to write a book. Nothing is ever perfect. I try very hard but when I re-read my earlier stuff I always think, “I could have done it better.” My advice is, do your best and get it out there! Of course, I didn’t begin writing till I was 72, so I don’t have all the time in the world!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Make your first sentence a zinger! A classic example is, “What would you do if you had to kill your daughter to save your wife?” No one could put that book down until they found out what was going on!
I can’t say my first sentences are as good as that, but I do try. For example, the first sentence of Héloise Says No is, “Thank you for your flattering attention, my lord, but the answer is no.”

What are you reading now?
I’m reading Anxious People by Fredrik Backman (he wrote A Man Called Ove). It’s a bank robbery gone wrong, where the robber takes hostages. But it’s not at all what you expect!

What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep on Writing. I never stop. I have a book out on August 30, I have one at the editing stage for March 2024, I have stories in two Anthologies coming out for the holidays, and my head is full of ideas.

I’d take:
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Deptford Trilogy by Robertson Davies (a cheat really, as it’s three books in one!)

Echoes of Betrayal: Protocol Clean Slate is my first published novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Echoes of Betrayal: Protocol Clean Slate is a novel inspired by true events. I worked as a private investigator for a little while, in Huntsville, AL, in the early to mid 1980s. One of the simple domestic cases turned into an international espionage case, requiring the State Department’s involvement.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, I usually start the story in my head while I am doing other things. So, when I sat down to write, I filled in the details. I am not productive when I sit down cold with the intention of writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
John Grisham, Mark Dawson, Lee Child, and Cindy Dees.

What are you working on now?
I have two at the formulation stage. The first is a physiological thriller, a murder, mystery involving a political prisoner held in an Alabama mental hospital.
The second is the second book to the Echoes of Betrayal: Protocol Clean Slate novel. Jack Campbell starts a new journey.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am just starting to promote, Facebook has been my go-to until now.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The words of a local newspaper editor come to mind. I was bragging to him that I was a writer, however, I had not written anything since college. What he said next was like a wake-up slap in the face. He handed me his business card, looked into my eyes, and said, “Writers write.” That was all he said and walked off. His newspaper published everything I wrote for the next year.
So, with all of the challenges of life, and whatever shortcomings you may have, just remember, “Writer writer,” figure the rest out as you need to.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Write!”

What are you reading now?
I do mostly audiobooks now, I am ready to start my next Mark Dawson book.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Learn how to promote the book that is now in print.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a British writer living in the US. I have been writing for twenty-five years and have won awards for short and flash fiction. I published my debut novel in 2011 and since then I have been shopping a TV property to Hollywood (ongoing) and working on The SiP Saga, a seven-book series for Middle Grade readers. Other notable work includes lyrics for an aria for the operatic version of Fritz Lang’s ‘Metropolis’, penning a movie script for the Chinese market, and working on a TV project centering on the Battle of Kohima in WW2.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called SiP, which was inspired by a concept, the mental image of a giant drinking straw poking out of the Atlantic Ocean, turning the planet into a juice box. The idea of a planet rich in liquid water, a rarity in the great cosmos, found by something equipped to drink it captured my imagination.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
As I still work full-time I suppose my strangest writing habit is that I write on the move. Time is always at a premium so I will often be found writing on my phone during my commute or away on business trips.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My inspirations come from both literature and movies. I have been a fan of the works of Roald Dahl and Douglas Adams since childhood. I write in my mind’s eye using the color palette and aesthetic of Hayao Miyazaki.

What are you working on now?
Book two of The SiP Saga which is called ‘Area 52’.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
It has to be Awesome Gang, right? I use a mix of different promotion sites and marketing channels. Having a mix of organic and paid marketing is important. A lot of marketplaces are pay-to-play now so you realistically have to factor in some kind of marketing budget when self-publishing a book.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. You will hear every author and expert out there tell you how hard it is to become a successful writer. Define what successful looks like for you and then put the hard work and hours in to achieve that success.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I would rather have something and not need it than need it, and not have it.

What are you reading now?
The Naked Sun by Isaac Asimov

What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing usually. Finish the series and try not to get distracted by other ideas and projects that will invariably crop up.

That’s a tough question. Honestly, I would take blank notebooks with me so I have the ability to create and draw. Trying to choose favorite books is like trying to pick your favorite kid.

As I grew older, this passion for storytelling only deepeened. For years, the idea of crafting my own worlds and characters remained a distant dream. But the pull to share my stories grew stronger with each passing year. Finally, I summoned the courage to embark on this exciting journey. The result is “Beyond the Veil”, a testament to my lifelong love affair with the written word, and this first book is just the beginning of my story.

My book is called “Beyond the Veil”.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I`ve got a peculiar little writing habit that`s stuck with me since the fifth grade. It`s a simple thing, really: I adorn every “i” and “j” with a tiny, perfect circle. It`s like giving each letter a little crown, you know? I`ve tried to break the habit countless times, but it`s become as much a part of me as my love for storytelling. People often give me odd looks when they see my notes, (especially my boss), but I think it adds a touch of whimsy.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There was one particular book that ignited my lifelong passion for reading. I was perhaps six when my mother first took me to the city library. Among the countless books, one tood out: a children`s story with a captivating cover featuring a young witch. The details of the book have faded with time, also the author and the plot. But, the feeling of pure joy I experienced while reading it remains vivid.

What are you working on now?
I can`t tell you that. You will have to wait for the new book to come out like everyone else.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“There is nothing you can`t do if you want to.”

Books, on a deserted island? As a Croatian, practicality is ingrained in me. If I were to find myself stranded on a deserted island, my survival instincts would kick in immediately. While I cherish the world of literature, a good, sturdy book can also serve as excellent kindling. Give me a sharp knife, a trusty axe, and the knowledge passed down throught generations in my family, and I`ll transform that island into a sustainable home. Sure, I might miss the comfort of a good story, but the thrill of survival is a different kind of adventure altogether.

When in Bologna is my debut novel. I’ve started writing other books but this is the first one I’ve managed to finish. The first novel I ever started writing was a fantasy about magical cats – I wrote the first few chapters aged 12.

Bridget Jones Diary, Freya North and Jackie Collins are among my favourite romance writers.

What are you working on now?
My next project which is just an idea at the moment is going to be a fantasy incorporating magic, romance, robin hood and possibly time travel.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep going. My mantra is done is better than perfect. I would never have finished my first book if I was holding out for perfection. And self publishing is a great route if you find yourself getting rejected by traditional publishers.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Done is better than perfect.

What are you reading now?
The witch’s sacrifice by K.C Adams. The fourth in the afterlife calls series. The author lives locally and it’s set in the town where I live which is pretty cool.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Getting ideas on paper and research underway for my next novel.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Girl with the Glass feet by Ali Smith. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and Emma by Jane Austen.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is L D Houghton and I’ve written, gosh it must be nine books now, all some form of sci-fi; from technothrillers to dark comic sci-fi to hard sci-fi.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Mindfire; the trilogy was inspired by studies into the sources of human consciousness, international relations, the origins of totalitarianism, and of course the rapidly advancing fields of artificial intelligence.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write about my interests, mentioned above, and build my worlds as a sort of thought experiment to see where they lead.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
In terms of sci-fi, my inspirations range from Asimov and Herbert to James S A Corey and from Gibson to Peter Watts, among many others. In terms of themes and style, my main sources of inspiration and love come from Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write for yourself; no one else will.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If there is a god, it is our duty to be their moral superior.

Interview With Author Neil Orint

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Adventures in fantasy worlds are my favorite, so I wrote my first novel Discovery of Geminus set in a twin world to Earth that’s full of magic and mythical creatures (yetis!). I’ve published short fiction in anthologies and won the Finalist award from the Pacific Northwest Writers Association.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Discovery of Geminus is inspired by the mythology and magic of the Pacific Northwest, where I grew up playing in the pristine woods and waters. The book is inspired by the tension between the divine grace of nature, and the evil forces of greed and fear. The path of awakening is dangerous, but it’s also full of amazing joy and adventure – and fun to write about!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m up at 4:30 am and start writing after a cup of coffee. My goal is around 2000 words per day, which is often optimistic. I have help from Norton, my big brown tabby who’s an excellent writer’s companion, and of course I depend upon my muse for her inspiration and creativity.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Hunger Games, The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Tolkien, His Dark Materials, and others in this vein are all influences.

What are you working on now?
Book 2 and Book 3 of the Discovery of Geminus trilogy. I’m also putting together an anthology of published and award-winning short stories.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m new at promotion, so I can’t offer authoritative guidance, but so far Facebook has worked for an initial push. I’ll let you know when I figure it out!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you feel called to write, you must follow your calling. I write my best when I shut off my mind and listen to my heart, where the muse lives.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Follow your heart.

What are you reading now?
Sarah Maas, Peter Heller, Carl Jung, books about shamanism and Salish mythology.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Publish Book 2 and Book 3. Publish a collection of short stories.
