Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Im 52 and a father of two thats been separated for 7 years. Ive worked and lived mostly in California all my life with the exception of a few years in Portland Oregon. From 1990- 2001 I worked in the restaurant/bar industry and for 21 years after that, I owned and operated a landscape construction company out of Sacramento. I now live alone and semi-retired in the mountains of Costa Rica living off the sale of a property investment and hopefully soon from the proceeds of my new book. Ive written two books, one has yet to be published. However, if I include the children’s book and the coloring book than i guess I could technically say four.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“The Over Thinking Introvert, Healing Awakening and the Alchemy of Consciousness- Transmuting Pain into Power and Fear Into Freedom-Divine Science Ascension and Destiny” was inspired by my own experience of loosing my family and circle of friends and becoming painfully isolated and alone. Without saying as much, the book documents my own spiritual awakening through my own ego death and my own Dark night of the soul. Within it are the lessons and realizations I came to during this period and having both survived it and emerged from it a transformed individual in touch with my inner strength and life purpose, it became my duty knowing of the countless others that suffer, to share it with all and any who would listen.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I know of…but perhaps my need for earplugs and a hot beverage qualifies?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
By far the most influential author in my life has been and will always be Rudolph Steiner…his multitude of books and topics based in spiritual science have perhaps alone shaped my outlook and my writing. Otherwise it would be Kerouac, Hesse, Bukowski, Steinbeck, Gibran, Chopra, and Tolle.

What are you working on now?
Im working on promoting my new release, finishing my next book and moving into the next chapter of my life as an expert in my field.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Im a layman when it comes to promotion and marketing, but ive used Amazons free book Promo and a couple of paid services to drive traffic

Do you have any advice for new authors?
No one will ever believe in you the way you must believe in yourself

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
No matter how lonely you become, know that you are never alone.

What are you reading now?

What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing my next book, having the importance and wisdom of my message recognized, public speaking, teaching, becoming a spiritual leader.

I plan to keep building my series of dark romantic thrillers and eventually branch into fantasy romance. My ultimate goal is to deliver stories that could be adapted for the big screen.

I’d take It by Stephen King, Verity by Colleen Hoover, Dracula by Bram Stoker, and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Each has a mix of mystery, darkness, and emotional intensity that I’d never get tired of.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As an author, I have been writing for over 20 years. I have 12 books to my name (some under Kimberly A. McKenzie and some under Kimberly A. McKenzie-Klemm).

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Twisted Rabbit” is my newest fiction book, just released and available on lulu.com. I have listed it for mature content. Only those 18 years of age and over may order it. For this reason, “Twisted Rabbit” is found by looking up my name and clicking on the “hidden titles” for age verification.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always turn my creative “notes” into book notes. When I have a thought or an idea, I jot it down in sentences or half-sentences. Then, when I go back to write, if the thought or idea doesn’t pan out, I save it for a Setting, Character, Theme, or Plot note for my next book.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have authors I admire. Anne Rice, Margaret Atwood, Tom Clancy, and Mark Twain are just a few that I could mention.

What are you working on now?
Right now, I am taking a small vacation “break” from writing my next book, as “Twisted Rabbit” was just completed.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like social media, word of mouth, and (of course) author vehicles like Awesomegang.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors is “never give up.” My first book, “The Rest Room,” took seven years from the beginning to publication. I wrote for three years. The one publisher that even responded to my manuscript said to “send it back in about a year ‘if you clean it up’.” So, I put “The Rest Room” away for a year. Then I went back to it, and it took another two to three years to rewrite. I sent “The Rest Room” to the same publisher three to four years after his note, and he loved my rewrite, and then he granted publication. Unfortunately, after his wife died, the man (Henry Wren at henrywrenpublications.com) closed up his business.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
When I was a sophomore in high school, I won a short story writing competition and the judge (Mort Castle) told me to remember for the rest of my life this phrase: “You are a writer.”

What are you reading now?
I am reading “The Raketeer” by John Grisham.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am not sure if I’ll embark on another fiction journey immediately, or if I have another non-fiction work waiting. I write both types of books.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“The Bible,” “The Complete Works of Shakespeare,” and a book on how to build a treehouse.
