Another problem is that Anuchand Channer has several off-putting traits, aside from apparently turning Clay into a zombie. For one, he thinks he’s in hell, which does not endear him to his companions. Another is that he may be a really old vampire. Also, not endearing. Equally concerning, he can disappear and appear elsewhere at will. Mostly. Sometimes he disappears involuntarily.
Ernesh is going to have nightmares about that for life.
As Ernesh tries to establish Clay’s legal identity, the trio stumbles upon an increasingly intricate criminal conspiracy, people begin to die under mysterious circumstances, greed and betrayal lurch from the shadows and Clay’s undead predicament is steadily revealed to be rather “sciencey” in nature. Needless to say, things are not tranquil in Tinsel Town.
Can they solve this multifaceted puzzle before Clay’s ailment becomes permanent and Anuchand disappears, never to return? (For the record, Ernesh doesn’t have any issue with that last part).

Interview With Author Quintin Engelbrecht
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an atypical nerd. I love spending hours outdoors doing cycling, hiking multi-day traverses on mountains, freediving and kitesurfing, but also love curling up on the couch and binge-reading a good book. My love for words started when I was about 8. My aunt was moving house and she dumped a few dozen Reader’s Digest into my hands. I devoured them and reread them all several times.
Inspired, I started work on my first book at the age of 10. In Search of The Magnificent TIger. Never got further than 25 pages, but it sparked something. I would go on and finish writing the first version of my novel, The Winds of The Wild Coast in 2015, my last year of high school. It was just over 20k words. A skeleton. And it sat there, waiting to be resurrected. In 2018, I partially translated it from Afrikaans into English, and I saw the potential for it to grow into more. I expanded it further, but life got in the way again.
October 2024. Enough was enough. I took the manuscript and started fresh. I read it, researched, plotted and fleshed out the skeleton and started working. I got it up to 37k words in February of this year till I got stuck. I could have pushed through but I felt something was still missing from the story, and I didn’t know what it was. Another story burned in my mind and I had to get it out.
That is how We Were Here First was born. From March till July I wrote, revised, and edited my debut novella. I am a space nerd(I’d spend hours of my school year afternoons watching space documentaries and reading articles about the space race) and this novella embodies my passion for space exploration and the human element behind it. I am extremely proud of it and I put countless hours of research into this story and made many calculations to ensure things were as accurate as possible. And I also want people who don’t often read hard sci-fi to enjoy. I did my best to write it accurately and accessibly too. And I think I nailed it.
So, to answer succinctly, I have written 2 half books, 1 novella, and am working on the next book of this series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
We Were Here First.
Actually, it was a meme. I am a space-nerd through and through, so I love anything space-related, including the memes.
The meme was: “imagine we land on mars, and inside a cave, you find a piece of paper. what is the scariest thing possibly that could be written on it.”
So I thought something like, “We Were The First Ones!”
Now I took that idea, and brought it to an alternative version of history of the Space Race years.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nothing special. I like listening to epic instrumental music when writing. Sometimes I need silence to write, other times music, or just ambient sounds. A must for any writing session is a cup of coffee or tea with a rusk.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Wilbur Smith is definitely an author that broadened my horizons. His rich descriptions and sprawling storylines were a joy to read. There are many others who I don’t even remember the name of, but their stories stuck with me.
Others I do need to mention is Colonel Chris Hadfield, Andy Weir, and Dick Francis. I thoroughly enjoyed all of their work and have directly or indirectly influenced me and my writing.
What are you working on now?
Marketing this book! Haha.
On a more serious note, I am working on the sequel to We Were Here First, and also on the prequel, Project Zvezda.
And of course, The Winds of The Wild Coast. It has been churning around my mind and I have solved some of the issues that got me stuck earlier and I am excited to finish and publish it in 2026.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Honestly Tiktok is a great place to start. I wish I did more book-related content as a reader instead of just promoting my books. When I started becoming more of an indie-author supporter, naturally, more people started supporting me. I have seen the most growth there in the last month like that. Threads seems to have some potential. There are more authors than readers on there as far as I have seen, but I am trying to be more active on there.
Surprisingly, Youtube has been great too. I often got 2x or even 5x views of the same video there compared with Tiktok. Even found one of my ARC readers there. So crosspost to every platform you can and see what hits.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Give more to the community than what you take. Be a contributor before being a consumer. Crosspost your videos everywhere you can. Focus on the social media platform you can tolerate the most and crosspost that content elsewhere. It is never to early to start marketing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Make it exist first. You can make it good later.
What are you reading now?
The Defector, by Chris Hadfield.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing my novella series and getting The Winds of The Wild Coast published too! And another book in the works is called Dead line. A suspense story about a small town in the 1950’s where people die after receiving a phone call. And a switchboard operator is the one to investigate. Already got more ideas for a few more books after that 🙂

I’m Chad Willardson, father of five, husband of 22 years, successful founder of 4 companies, and three-term (12+ years) City Treasurer. I personally manage $1.4 billion of investments. I’m a five-time best-selling author, and I’ll soon be releasing my sixth book, “Fully Invested.”
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, Fully Invested, was inspired by a hard lesson that I learned—which is that work-life balance is a total life. After years of chasing that balance, while playing an active role in my family unit and simultaneously running my various businesses, I came to see the truth for what it is.
Now, I want to help other ambitious business leaders learn how to win big at home and in business without feeling like they’re compromising on one or the other.

My writing style is very personal. I write like I talk. More casual and very easy to read. I write for Entrepreneur, Forbes and author 100+ newsletters per year along with one book per year.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
One of my favorite books is ‘10X is Easier Than 2X’ by Dr. Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan. These same authors wrote Who Not How, another great book I enjoy.
What are you working on now?
With my latest book having just been released, I’m enjoying the territory by hosting some fun book launch events, recording my audiobook, and a 3-day virtual conference called FULLY INVESTED LIVE (Oct 28-30).
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
For both Fully Invested and my last book, Wealth Wired Differently, I’ve done a podcast and press tour, participating in interviews with The Jordan Harbinger Show and Millionaire University to spread some of the takeaways I’ve been sharing in my books!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Done is better than perfect. Don’t wait for your book to be perfect.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Prioritize your life in the order of God, spouse, kids, and then everyone else. If you keep that order straight, most of your decisions become easier.

Nothing yet, just sharing Fully Invested and preparing for the Fully Invested LIVE global conference!
What’s next for you as a writer?
In 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic, I set a goal of writing ten books in ten years. I’m over halfway to that goal, with six books down and four to go. Next year, I’ll be working on my seventh (hopefully) best-seller!

Please Sneeze in Portuguese is my latest book. It’s inspired by my family’s adventures in moving to Portugal when I had small children.

I try to write a half hour a day, four times a week. Eventually, I actually finish books!

I read the Chronicles of Narnia every summer as a child. I think Harry Potter is brilliant, and in hidden, little-known ways.

Interview With Author Preston Lewis
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am the author of 60 books, including traditional westerns, historical novels, young adult books, and nonfiction works as well as numerous articles and short stories. I have been honored with three Spur Awards from Western Writers of America and eleven Will Rogers Medallion Awards, including seven gold medallions.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, co-authored with my wife Harriet Kocher Lewis, is Pintsized Pioneers at Play: Homemade Frontier Fun and Danger. It is the sequel to our Spur Award-winning YA book Pintsized Pioneers: Taming the Frontier, One Chore at a Time. The original Pintsized Pioneers was inspired by watching TikTok posts about Millennials and Gen Z’ers complaining about having to go to work or follow work rules by their employers. I was raised with a strong work ethic and wanted to demonstrate how easy kids today have it, compared to all the chores children did on the frontier. Research into their chores also revealed what children and teens did for entertainment on the frontier and led to Pintsized Pioneers at Play, our latest book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Writing in and of itself is an unusual habit. Nothing in particular comes to mind out of the ordinary other than I drink Diet Mountain Dew to keep me going.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
As a youngster, these authors were particularly influential. First was Mark Twain, who could tell a story with depth and humor. Second was J. Frank Dobie, whose accounts and folk tales of early cowboys first fascinated me about the Old West and its history. The third was Ernie Pyle, the nation’s most beloved World War II correspondent. He wrote with humility and compassion and showed me you could make a living as a journalist, so I went into journalism and newspapers, which provided a solid foundation for writing books. As an adult, the fiction authors that were influential were Elmer Kelton, Loren Estleman, Douglas C. Jones, and Jeanne Williams. Nonfiction authors I’ve enjoyed included Daniel Boorstin, Stephen Ambrose, Walter Lord, Cornelius Ryan, Robert M. Utley, Elliott West and Frederick Nolan.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a YA novel on the famous bucking horse Steamboat, and I’m trying my hand at some screenplays based on my previous novels. I’m also developing a character for a new comic western series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m better at writing than self-promotion or marketing, so I use Blue Cottage Agency for marketing. The BCA team has done a wonderful job in promoting my works and setting up a professional website at prestonlewisauthor.com
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’ll pass along advice given to me by three journalists or authors. First, my primary journalism professor at Baylor University, David McHam, told me early in my writing career that “Good writing is good editing.” This freed me of the burden of getting it all right on the first draft. Usually I go through three drafts. The first is just to get something down on the screen. The second draft tries to clear up plot and character inconsistencies while doing a heavy edit. The third draft is to polish the manuscript and make it shine. Second came a solid piece of advice from the greatest Western Writer of all time, Elmer Kelton. His advice to all new writers was “don’t quit your day-job.” The third piece of advice came from Jeanne Williams, the author I consider my fiction-writing mentor, who told me “perseverance trumps talent so stick with it.”
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
As above, “perseverance trumps talent so stick with it.”
What are you reading now?
Unimaginable: What Our World Would Be Like without Christianity by Jeremiah Johnston; A Strange and Blighted Land: Gettysburg—The Aftermath of a Battle by Gregory A. Coco; and Continental Reckoning: The American West in the Age of Expansion by Elliott West.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Trying my hand at screenplays and starting another comic western series in the vein of my eight comic westerns in The Memoirs of H.H. Lomax series.

Interview With Author Jyothi Gupta
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
“As of today, I have published two books: Hands on the Lever and Silvershadow.”
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Both of my books were released just a week apart. The publishing deal I signed was for three books, and I delivered two as part of that commitment.
The first one, Hands on the Lever, tells the story of a female journalist who becomes a hangwoman. The inspiration came from a chance encounter during one of my journeys, where I met someone whose ancestors had served as hangmen during British India. Hearing how that legacy affected his family across generations made me reflect: if I were in his place, how would I respond? That thought became the seed for the novel.
My second book, Silvershadow: The Widow Code, was sparked by a news story. A prominent business magnate took his life in the Mandovi River despite having more assets than debts, which made me question the deeper reasons behind such choices. Around the same time, I was also intrigued by how smartphones are increasingly used for surveillance and how the Indian government banned certain brands over privacy concerns. I combined these threads into a fictional narrative, blending fact and imagination, and that’s how Silvershadow was born.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
One unusual habit of mine is that I love to travel and meet strangers. Whenever I come across new people, my curiosity takes over: I start imagining their lives in my own way and often jot down those thoughts in my diaries, which I call Jet-Set Diaries. Over time, someone encouraged me to take those diary notes more seriously and turn them into stories, and that’s how my journey as an author truly began.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Two authors who deeply influenced me are Gabriel García Márquez and Fyodor Dostoevsky. Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude left a lasting impression on me—the emotional depth he brought to his characters and the way he wove together such a vast number of lives into one tapestry always makes me wonder how such brilliance is possible. He has been a constant source of inspiration. Then comes Dostoevsky, especially with Crime and Punishment. His exploration of morality, guilt, and the human mind pushed me to think more deeply about storytelling and how writing can create an entirely new world for readers to step into.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on a new book with a female protagonist. The central idea I’m exploring is how far a woman can go in today’s highly competitive world—and how that journey affects her personally and emotionally. Recently, I’ve also been reflecting on the realities of social media: the way some people, especially on messaging platforms, respond to women and how quickly interactions can turn inappropriate or disrespectful. Of course, this doesn’t apply to everyone, but the behavior of a few really made me think. At this stage, it’s still a broad concept I’m shaping, but I feel it has the potential to grow into a full-fledged book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m quite new to book promotion, so I’m still in the learning phase. Honestly, I don’t know much yet, but I’m exploring step by step. AwesomeGang is actually one of my first encounters with book promotion, and I really liked the way it’s designed for authors and readers. Beyond that, I’m still exploring different platforms and figuring out what works best for me.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
To be honest, giving advice at this stage would feel like a blind man guiding another blind man or like describing an elephant just by touching it. I’m still very new to this world myself and learning every day. I began writing for my own pleasure, but once I stepped into publishing, I realised how quickly it turns into a kind of social media circus, where you end up spending more time in the digital world than actually creating something new. So instead of giving advice, I would say I’m in a place where I’m taking advice and learning from others.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I received came from one of my mentors at work. He encouraged me to submit Hands on the Lever to an OTT platform, and I decided to follow his suggestion. Recently, I got the news that they are planning to adapt it into a series. That single piece of advice not only opened a whole new possibility for my book but also introduced me to the exciting world of scriptwriting. Looking back, I can say that was truly the best advice I’ve ever taken.
What are you reading now?
Lately, I’ve been reading my own book from a reader’s perspective. It’s interesting to spot flaws and think about how to improve them. Recently, I also finished rereading Crime and Punishment, which continues to inspire me with its depth and insight into human nature.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I don’t have a solid answer to that yet. In my professional life, I always have a clear plan of action, but as a writer, it’s different, success isn’t entirely in my hands. It will ultimately be decided by the readers and how they connect with my work.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I were stranded on a deserted island and could take three or four books, one would definitely be Refugee No. 566 by R. Shyam Nair. I’ve read it before, and the story of a Sri Lankan refugee: the survival journey, how a number becomes an identity, and the lengths a person goes to find themselves, really made me reflect. Aside from that, I enjoy light rom-coms, though I can’t recall specific titles at the moment.

Interview With Author Jo Alexander
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Jo Alexander is a mature author who only took up writing later in life after careers in the military, business, agriculture and management. In his own words: ‘I’ve always been an avid reader. Since childhood, I devoured books. Diverse genres, diverse authors. I loved it. And then, one night some years ago, I found myself with absolutely nothing to read. As I sat there, bored senseless, something happened. Slowly, an idea began to take shape in my head. I reached for a pen and paper and started making notes, then sentences, then paragraphs. I switched on my computer and began typing. And, eighteen months later, the first three books of the Random Destiny Series were done. It wasn’t plain sailing, not by any means. To research facts and background, I had to read about another hundred-and-fifty books. The Internet was still rather primitive in those days, so hard copy books had to do. But I kept on writing. Some days I had to re-write paragraphs, some days pages, as the characters developed wills of their own and ran away with the plot. In some places I applied artistic license quite liberally, and in others I went through mental anguish in order to keep the characters human and believable. It was quite a journey. But here it is now, the final product, ready for you to enjoy in e-book format – three novels, one epic adventure. And it is not yet over. I’m working on the next book of the series as well as two other separate books. So keep a lookout for that.’
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Actually, I’m working on three books. Yes, three – simultaneously. Strange, I know. I don’t have final titles for them as yet, but the more prominent one would be the fourth book in the Random Destiny Series. I left some threads hanging in the third book, so I guess I’m compelled to complete that with a fourth Sword book.
The second new book is my response to what I think is probably a universal question – what if the Universe gave Earth somebody that could sort out the mess we’re in. Someone, not in a religious sense, but with ‘abilities’, someone who could boldly take the steps needed because he had been ‘rendered immune from the consequence of his actions’? A Redeemer… This could probably turn into another series – it has to cover a lot of ground.
The third new book is about a privileged man with a death sentence hanging over his head. He has everything except a future. When he meets a girl in a dangerous and desperate situation, he decides to help her, but suddenly has the intelligence services of two governments trying to get their hooks into him at any cost. How will he, and the girl, survive?
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, but probably not unusual in the broader sense. I do my best work at night. In the wee hours. Primarily for the peace and quiet when everybody else is asleep.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Lots of them, over the years. I grew up on Wilbur Smith novels, and later all the big names – Clive Cussler, Len Deighton, Robert Ludlum, Frederick Forsyth, Jeffrey Archer, to name but a few. However, in my view, two authors stand out for specific reasons. First, Tolkien, whose works inspired the whole Dungeons & Dragons genre. That man’s imagination and craftsmanship was beyond exceptional. And, secondly, Bernard Cornwell, who you might know as the author of the Sharpe series. His plethora of historical novels across various theaters displays exceptionally meticulous research and dedication. I stand in awe of these men.
What are you working on now?
Three more books.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far, Awesome Gang seems to be rather good.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you have the time and resources to write, go for it!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You have two ears and one mouth – listen twice and talk once.
What are you reading now?
Various books for research on my new novels.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Impossible to say! The creative mind takes one to unexpected places at unexpected times.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Probably three or four books on how to survive on a desert island!

Interview With Author May Garner
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is May Garner, I’m a poet and author based out of Dayton, Ohio, and I have been writing for nearly fifteen years. A decade of those years spent sharing my work online. I am the author of two poetry books, “Withered Rising” and “Melancholic Muse.” My work can also be found in several magazines and anthologies, including Querencia Press, Arcana Poetry Press, Cozy Ink Press, and the Ohio Bards. Most recently, my work was featured in Speckled Trout Review’s 2025 Summer Issue (6.1).
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Melancholic Muse” was published in February of 2025 and has been an absolute joy to watch grow over the months! The inspiration behind the collection goes deep, taking me back to 2016, when I first discovered my love for poetry. I began sharing my work online on a website called Wattpad, where I published my first online poetry collection titled “Melancholy.” When I sat down to begin drafting my next book, I decided to bring that collection to life and revamp it. “Melancholic Muse” holds all of my first poetry, my first heartbreaks, my first breath of poetic revenge.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t necessarily know if it’s unusual, but it tends to be unpopular when I talk to my author friends. I prefer to write in complete silence. No music, no shows, no talking as I type. As much as I would love to listen to the playlists I make for my books while I write, I just simply cannot comprehend what I’m thinking in my brain on top of the music.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King has always been a huge influence on my author journey. I pull from his huge success and the story of how he started out. As for poetry, I pull inspiration and take after poets like Amanda Lovelace, Amy Elizabeth Vaughn, and Gigi Flanard.
What are you working on now?
My current project is a third poetry collection entitled, “Suicidal Cathedrals.” This collection will focus heavily on the topics of childhood trauma, suicide, grief, and the loss of a parent. I’m still in the early stages of the manuscript, but I am hopeful and very excited for the new journey! This collection is looking to be far more dark compared to my other two.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I share my work on a few different platforms, but tend to focus more on Instagram! My community and group of friends there are so, so supportive and kind, and have helped my work grow into what it is today!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
No dream is impossible. If you truly want something, it will find you when your time is right. Hold on tight to your hopes, your dreams, the life you dream of late at night. It’s worth holding on. I almost let go many, many times, but I’m beyond grateful I didn’t. The little girl that dreamed of becoming an author would be ecstatic to see where we are.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just because things aren’t okay right now doesn’t mean they won’t get better.
What are you reading now?
Currently, I am trying to finish up the Chestnut Springs series by Elsie Silver, and am on the book, “Reckless.” I am also reading a poetry collection by a close friend of mine entitled, “The Darkest of Times, The Darkest of Thoughts” by Megan Diedericks.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Currently, my main goals are to finish up my third poetry collection and to continue submitting my work to literary magazines and anthologies. I just hit my 2025 goal of being published every month out of the year, so I’m hoping to do that for 2026, as well!

Will she be able to stop the City from changing the past? Can she escape and make it back to her time?
Only time will tell.
