Interview With Author B.B. Brighton
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
The Neverseen: A Young Adult Dystopian Novel is the second in the Never Trio Series. Each is a standalone, but each book is about one of the three brothers, Neverborns. They all grew up together, all saved by the abortionists, each with their own stories. The Neverborn: A Young Adult Dystopian Novel is the first in the series.
Previously, I published Tune-Up Your Relationship by Barbara Rice (B.B. Brighton is my pen name for my fiction books.)
I’ve been a teacher, counselor, speaker, and toilet cleaner for most of my life, especially the toilet cleaner part. I do like making growing fun, and we get to grow as time goes on–and on. How we grow is crucial though. If our ego grows as we feed it, our relationships don’t. I’m all about growing in God, growing in discovering who you can be, and discovering the beauty of those around you. Writing adventures where interesting characters get to make mistakes and show you without you having the consequences can be a win-win. Check it out! You might grow in surprising ways.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Neverseen depicts a segment of people who the general society sees as valueless. They aren’t given opportunities and are never “seen” by society as being equal. It debunks the lie that all people aren’t precious. Each and every person has potential, an eternal soul, and unfathomable value.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
We live in Hawaii, so it’s always warm outside. I sit under the A/C with a sweater on, even though the house is 75 degrees plus. If I get too cold, I can pop outside and stand under the warm sun, like a seal coming on the beach to sleep under the sun.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love other fantasy books, Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Suzanne Collins, Andrew Peterson, Veronica Roth.
What are you working on now?
The third in the series, The Neverknown. It ties in all three brothers in the culmination of the trilogy.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I need help. Please share about these books if your heart resonates with the theme. Please give the books a rating review on Amazon. No book is an island. Each needs a bridge. Please be that bridge.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Writing is running into a thousand brick walls. We all have a set of skills, but the writing/publishing/marketing process takes every skill. I wouldn’t bother if I wasn’t called to it. On the other hand, we only have one life. What we do with ours is our love gift to God, to our children, and to the world.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Love God. Love yourself (you’re a person too.) Love others.
What are you reading now?
Scythe by Neal Shusterman
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a couple of books I’ve written but not published. I’ll see when I get done with The Neverknown.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Imagine Heaven, Jesus Always
