Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have love everything about the Middle Ages. Knights. Castles. Highlanders. I think I must have lived during this period in a previous life. In my spare time, I teach World History to 8th graders who are only interested in Facebook, but by the time I’m done with them, they have a new appreciation for Ancient History. I currently have 7 books out. My latest series, GODS OF THE HIGHLANDS includes a total of 4 books. The first two, CAMULUS and SIRONA are available now. Book 3, TANIS, will be available by the end of September, with Book 4, LUCAN available in October.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book in the GODS OF THE HIGHLANDS series is Sirona. As a huge fan of Karen Marie Moning and Diana Gabaldon, I had always wanted to write about Highlanders. I also LOVE Sherrilyn Kenyon, so I thought it would be great to combine all the things I love about these authors’ works to create my own spin.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
As a teacher, I have to put in many hours both during the day as well as after school. Therefore, I get up at 4 am everyday to get in two hours of writing before I getting my family up and ready for the day. I protect those two hours with everything I have, ensuring that nothing comes between mem and my writing time. My husband built me a beautiful barn for my horse, and I have a writing studio there that is decorated like a Medieval castle. I’m inspired the moment I enter and have to force myself to leave most days.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
As I mentioned earlier, my favorite authors are Karen Marie Moning and Sherrilyn Kenyon. I also love Diana Galbadon’s Outlander series. New favorites are Mary Morgan and Cathy MacRae.
What are you working on now?
I have just finished Book 3 in the GODS OF THE HIGHLANDS series, TANIS. The 4th and final book, LUCAN is in the prewriting stage. I intend to move this series into the present day with these 4 couples guiding the newest generation of Celtic demi-gods. Think Dark Hunters meet Scottish Highlanders.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I get the most success from postings I do on Facebook. I have a limited presence there because there are just so many hours in a day, but I definitely notice an increase in sales with I post blurbs and teasers there. My Twitter account is linked to my Facebook page.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Focus on your writing. Learn everything you can about craft. You need to have books on the virtual shelf before you concern yourself too much with marketing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Pack your Romance Novel with emotion!
What are you reading now?
Mary Morgan’s DRAGON KNIGHT’S AXE.
What’s next for you as a writer?
When this series is done, I plan to finish a related series before moving my characters into the present day. My heart is still in the past.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
All of Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander books and Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series.
