Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a semi-retired pastor who loves writing, travel, and playing “monster” with my grandkids. My wife Linda and I have two children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandkids. We live on our organic farm “in Sonoma County, California. Thus far, I’ve written two books, “Thriving in Quarantine”, a number-one best-seller, and “Thriving in Troubled Times,” a fifty-day devotional book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Relaunch of “Thriving in Quarantine.” We were passengers on the Grand Princess cruise ship, when COVID first made the headlines. We were literally among the first people in America to be quarantined for COVID. It’s a humorous look at our family’s adventures on the ill-fated “Corona Cruise.” Of course, we found nothing humorous about COVID. But traveling with three small children made our family’s experiences lighthearted and funny. New York Times Best-Selling author Francine Rivers said this about “Thriving in Quarantine”: “With his signature humor and strong faith, Barney Cargile shows how God meets us anywhere and everywhere… A thoroughly enjoyable read about life under quarantine.”
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I try to work on writing every day, even if it’s just jotting down some notes. I love to sit under our grape arbor, looking at our goats and sheep in our field.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Bob Goff, John Eldredge, and Mike Rowe have all influenced me through their writing styles and overall messages.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a memoir entitled “American Epic: The Space Race, Arms Race, and a Home-Run Race.” It’s a great cross-section of what life was like to grow up as a baby-boomer. It’s filled with humor and inspiration.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Up to now, I haven’t used any book promotion websites. I’ve relied on a launch team to help promote it. A few months ago, I joined Chandler Bolt’s Self-Publishing School, and I’m beginning to discover some of the many tools available in book promotion.
