Interview With Author Baroque Medusa
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Baroque Medusa, a poet and erotica writer with five books under my belt, three of which are self-published. In addition to my writing, I contribute to EDM House Network.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Animals on a Carousel” dropped on 8/18 and is a non-fiction collection of diary entries, written over the past year as erotica poetry. Spanning twenty-one years in the making, this book is my most telling story yet. Through a mix of Haikus and Free Verse, I bare my soul and share graphic and intimate moments with my lover. I invite you to take a seat and experience a journey that’s nothing short of a porn star movie. Get in and take the backseat on this epic joyride through my passionate and uninhibited world.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure if it’s “unusual,” but when I write erotica, I always create a Spotify playlist for each project that transports me into the world of my characters. Music plays a huge role in setting the tone. Artists like Lana del Rey, She Wants Revenge, Love Ecstasy & Terror, Adam Bravin, Deftones, Chino Moreno, Marilyn Manson, (Crosses), Cuffed, and KSLV Noh heavily influence both my writing and personal life.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
When it comes to writing erotica, I’m influenced more by music, post-pandemic human behavior, and my experience as a Gen Xer. Our generation tends to be more open and liberated about sex, especially compared to Gen Z and millennials, so that shapes a lot of my perspective. It’s less about specific authors or books and more about the culture and experiences around me.
What are you working on now?
I’m wrapping up Death by Orgasm, which takes my usual erotica writing in a darker, more absurd direction. It’s a collection of short stories where desire meets unexpected consequences, blending steamy encounters with wicked twists of fate. Each story explores the dangerous side of pleasure, with a dash of dark humor. It’s definitely different from my previous works and has a lot more fun than I had expected.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Along with promoting through my own website and social media, I’ve hired a PR specialist on Fiverr to handle posts on book blog sites, All Author, X, Crave Books, and now Awesome Gang. I’m also planning to try Amazon ads for my next book, though I’m still exploring which platform works best when it comes to erotica.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
You’re the creator. There is no limit. Write what you feel.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I’ve been told many times, “Stop talking and start writing.”
What are you reading now?
I just got done reading “Film for Her” by Orion Carloto, which was a beautifully written nostalgic experience. Lately, though, I’ve been so busy writing—between my books, Dayclub SEAZN (my lifestyle blog), and my work for EDM House Network—that I haven’t had much time for reading. Most of my inspiration comes from music and everyday life, which keeps my creativity flowing.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Now that Death by Orgasm is wrapping up, I’m starting to think about what could push my buttons or challenge me next. I want to think outside the box, just like Death by Orgasm did for me. It’ll be erotica, but the concept, storyline, and whether it’ll be poetry or short stories are still undecided.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. Mythology (75th Anniversary Illustrated Edition): Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes – I read this book once a year.
2. The Art of War – Sun Tzu
3. Violet Bent Over Backwards Over the Grass – Lana Del Rey
