Interview With Author Barry Becker
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have spent over thirty-five years in sales and marketing positions for several corporations. The most exciting experience I’ve had was from 1984 to 1991 as vice president of international sales and marketing for Eyedentify. This Oregon-based defense contractor manufactured and marketed eye-retinal biometrics technology for positive ID within sensitive facilities. Our customers were the ministries of defense and interior, intelligence agencies, nuclear power plants, aerospace and defense contractors, banks, and financial institutions. After retiring in 2013, I began thinking about my experiences marketing a high-security technology system around the world. I immediately thought I had an idea for writing a good spy thriller. The Ericksen Connection novel was the result of my business experience and imagination.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Ryzhkov Vendetta is book 2 of Mark Ericksen Thriller Books. It is the second book in the series. In book one, the CIA tasked Mark Ericksen to sabotage the Saudi terrorist mastermind’s plans to attack two American cities with nuclear suitcase bombs. In book two, the Russian oligarch Alexander Ryzhkov is out for revenge against the CIA team that destroyed his covert mission with the Saudis. The story needed to be action-packed and adrenaline-charged to heighten the theme of revenge and a personal vendetta.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No. I focus on the main characters and attempt to write five to ten pages during a session. These drafts begin taking shape after a grueling period that is challenging for me.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The authors who have influenced me are Vince Flynn, James Patterson, David Baldacci, Andrew Kaplan, Christopher Reich, and Daniel Silva.
What are you working on now?
I will begin book three in the series sometime next year.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Book Reader Magazine.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Everyone has a story. However, once one has an idea for their story, they shouldn’t give up.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep writing and be determined to finish the story.
What are you reading now?
Silverview by John Le Carre’.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep reading books by my favorite authors. If I receive significant traction in the marketplace, I will continue to author stories.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Three or four books on survival and mindfulness.
