Interview With Author Bear Carmack
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a man who is boyfriend to Mr Smith King and I’m asexually queer (not straight out loud and proud!). I’m also a Kinship Adventist Protestant Christian believer.
I like nonfiction reading, art museums, history museums, and travel.
Freddy the baby dragon is my first book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My my children’s picture book is called Freddy the Baby Dragon. The title and basic plot was given to me by God in a dream about late September 2023.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well I use AI via ChatGBT as my free ghostwriter. I told it to write my story based on my BearCarmack writing style guide (so that the story is in my voice, not some generic boring robotic voice!).
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Number one hand down is the English Holy Bible.
The second would be my favorite author of Ellen g White, who is a prophetess of God (born 1827 and died 1915).
Other books include
7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen r Covey,
What color is your parachute by Richard Nelson Bolles,
how to win friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie,
Pilgrims progress by John Bunyan,
Purpose driven Life by Rick Warren,
The hiding place by Corry ten Boone,
Man search for meaning by Victor L Franco.
In his steps by Charles Sheldon,
Storybrand by Donald Miller,
Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis,
Five love languages by Gary Chapman,
AND SO ON!
What are you working on now?
A possible sequel to Freddy the Baby Dragon, where the brown dragons think they’re superior to the other colored dragons.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Don’t have one yet.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Take imperfect action NOW! Don’t wait for the perfect time or the perfect place or come up with the the perfect idea. No, start NOW!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be yourself and do so as lovingly and tactful as possible to the glory of God!
What are you reading now?
1. A book about unrealistic faith – The author contends that real faith in the Bible is very unrealistic!
2. A “spy” book on how to find people or how to be hidden yourself.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Well I do have a teen or tweens series about a kid who comes of age but more than hormone kick in. There is one scene in middle school where a bully keeps messing with him so he throws them against the locker and has his body slides down the blood on the lockers and his body makes indentures in the locker as well. Our hero is horrified and runs away. Nobody ever bulloes him again Go figure!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. My Christian Standard Bible (CSB) of the Holy Bible.
2. Desire of ages Ellen g White (a biography of Jesus).
3. A very comprehensive island survival book.
4. A survival cookbook.
