About Before the Unit: The Recruiting of Kevin Banks by Anne Fox
How does a Secret Service agent charged with protecting the president of the United States find himself becoming a part of a federal law enforcement team that’s so secretive that their deaths are faked? The team and its support personnel, known only as “the unit”, unknown to him have had their eye on him.
How he ended up in the unit is not supposed to be known. However, when his wife—the unit’s only female member and the team’s sniper—hits him with a bit of logic, she manages to get him to tell his story.
This book is that story: the story of how a young man became convinced that protecting the president should be his goal, and how protecting the president led to him doing much, much more. It takes you step-by-step through his journey, letting you see through his eyes and his thoughts how he traveled along the way. By the end of the book, you will know how he got his curious code name—Spud—and understand what is meant by the phrase “keeping it real”.

Author Bio:
Anne Fox lives in El Paso, Texas along with three cats, nine chickens, and a pond full of goldfish. Aside from writing, she enjoys gardening, crafts, rockhounding, and traveling. A trained firearms instructor and holder of a commercial pilot’s license, she draws upon her many experiences to pen her evolving epic series, THE UNIT.
Much of her traveling is centered around competing in marksmanship championships around the country, and she has amassed numerous trophies for her shooting skills. Taking a little extra time allows her to see the sights and get a sense of the various regional cultures the United States has to offer. Anne has spent time in locales as far separated as Maine and Japan, both in her personal travels and with the military, enjoying the people and places she has encountered along the way. She’s always up for a road trip, so you just might meet her one day, or find a book she’s left behind at some place she has stayed. Her flying has taken her from one side of the country (Vero Beach, Florida) to the other (Palo Alto, California) thus enabling her to say that she’s seen the country from both the surface and above.
She is the owner and “chief cook and bottle washer” of Star on the Mountain Books, LLC—her own publishing company. Doing everything necessary to bring a book to life, with the exception of cover art which she leaves to her artist, Momir Borocki, much of her time is spent working with other authors. She edits, proofreads, formats, and publishes for her affiliated authors.
An avid reader, she also spends time daily reading the works of other authors, many of whom are up-and-coming authors as she is herself. She also leaves reviews for the books she reads which appear on Goodreads and Amazon. Currently, she is reading Gore Vidal’s historical novel, Lincoln.
Anne hopes you will enjoy this quick-reading novella-length story of how one of THE UNIT’s main characters made it into the story.
