About Before You Work Out: A Pre-Workout Supplement for Your Mind by Frederick Albert
Mindfulness—all of us could use a little more of it throughout our lives. My goal for writing this book was to inject a substantial dose of elevated consciousness into the health and fitness journeys of all who take the time to read it, whether their quest is just beginning or is currently underway.
I’m an independent personal trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) with a master’s degree in kinesiology/sports sciences and almost thirty years of personal fitness experience.
This book focuses on the mental starting point of various decisions you will be forced to make from the weight room to the kitchen. It’s intended to optimize your pre-workout mindset so you can make the smartest, most effective choices along your trek of self-improvement, including:
Building muscle
Burning fat
Increasing energy
Improving agility and mobility
Optimizing holistic health
I became a personal trainer to act as a force multiplier in my clients’ lives. If I do my job well, I can empower those I work with to strengthen and improve every facet of their life, not just their physical health. That’s the goal I set for every client as well as for this book and anyone that reads it.

I’m Rick, and I have a passion for helping people optimize their health and, ideally, their entire life.
I own and operate a boutique personal training business, and I’ve earned a master’s in kinesiology/sports science. In short, fitness and health are my life’s passions and purposes. I live what I teach and teach what I’ve lived, including how to avoid many of the mistakes I’ve made over a thirty-year fitness journey.
“Before You Work Out” is my first fitness book, but it won’t be my last. I put a great deal and time and effort into making this book an extremely practical, easy-to-understand manual for anyone that’s thinking about working out with weights for the first time, as well as for anyone that’s already been weight training without the results they’re looking for.
