Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello! I’m Beth Troy, and I write Christian fiction – don’t be embarrassed for me! I published my first book, Lu, about how a modern woman finds God, in 2017, and am publishing the sequel, Louisa, this summer.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Louisa and was inspired by how a modern woman claims the voice and identity she has in Christ.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wake up at 4AM to get it done. Thank you, coffee!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Madeleine L’Engle and Anne Lamott inspire me in how they write about faith from different angle. I appreciate the depth of thought CS Lewis and Tim Keller bring to Christian apologetics. Barbara Kingsolver and Kaye Gibbons inspire me in their development of female characters.
What are you working on now?
Building a community around modern faith stories and writing Book 3!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
It’s a slow and steady game – promos don’t mean much unless you are also building conversations and community over time.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Finding time to write consistently over time is more important than quantity of time on any given day. If you all you have is a half hour to dedicate every day, then dedicate that!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Treat every day like Groundhog’s Day by showing up and doing the work, without excuse.
What are you reading now?
I just finished Becoming by Michelle Obama and loved it. Next up is The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Book 3 where I’m going to be taking a minor character from the first two Lu stories and exploring her life and faith.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Little Women (Louisa May Alcott), Walking on Water (Madeleine L’Engle), and The Great Divorce (CS Lewis).
