Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written one novel and one poetry collection.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My debut novel is called Beneath the Watery Moon. I wanted to write a story that delved into the darker side of human nature and explored the concepts of madness.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I never know where the book is going to take me. I don’t start with a synopsis, instead I sit down and let the story write itself.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King and James Herbert and huge influences. I love horror and want to write stories shaded under that genre. But I’m not interested in zombies, or vampires. I like real people and psychological horror based in reality is my thing.
That is not to say I do not read and enjoy a vast array of fiction genres. Rosamund Lupton is a hero of mine and I think her style of writing is breathtaking. She is able to convey her wonderful stories with a beautiful use of language.
What are you working on now?
My third novel is very close to completion. It is another psychological horror, perhaps aimed at a more commercial market than Beneath the Watery Moon.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to use social media sites to promote my work. Twitter is a must!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep going and never give up.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write what you feel and what you know.
What are you reading now?
Predictably, a Stephen King novel Lisey’s Story.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep on writing and hope to reach the widest possible audience with my work.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
This is easy….
Ben Okri – The Famished Road.
Rosamund Lupton – Afterwards.
Agatha Christie – Murder on the Orient Express
Dennis Lehane – Shutter Island
