Interview With Author Beverly Rearick
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Beverly A. Rearick is the author of paranormal cozy mysteries. The paranormal has always been something she's been interested in since she was young. She even did some paranormal investigations at one time. Besides her love of the paranormal, she is also a lover of anything to do with bats. You will find a bat somewhere in every story she writes.
I have published three books and preparing more.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Reunion, Runes & Revenge.
I had come up with a number of titles for future books in order to stay consistent. Reunions intrigued me because I never went to my high school reunion. I sat down with paper and just came up with whatever bad things I could picture happening to my character at her reunion. And the story just bloomed from there.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have a blue neon bat that I turn over whenever I am writing or revising a draft. Since my "office" is in the living room, this is an indication to my family that it isn't the time to bother me. It works most of the time.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I think every book I read influences me in some way. For the longest time, I was an avid Dean Koontz reader. I still read his books, but the past few years I've fallen behind. Mainly because I found the paranormal cozy mystery genre. The moment I read the first one, I fell in love. It combines the two things I love the most, the paranormal and mysteries.
What are you working on now?
I'm currently writing the fifth book in my Moonflower Mysteries Series. This one happens right before Halloween, leading into the sixth book, which will all happen on Halloween. Working on this book leading up to the holiday has allowed me to be in the right mind set.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook has helped me a great deal with promoting my books. Since I am fairly new, I haven't delved into the whole paid ads section of marketing, but I've grown some regular readers by promoting in groups that focus on cozy mysteries and paranormal books.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Believe in yourself!
I had a great deal of self-doubt when I started my journey. Although I have gotten positive feedback, I still wondered if I would even make one sale when my first book was published. Even writing my fifth book, I doubt myself when I'm having a rough day getting the words onto the screen.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Someone right now is waiting for your book.
When I first started out, I got the opportunity to have a book coach. I was overwhelmed by everything involved in self-publishing my book and had a great deal of self-doubt. He told me this during one of our first meetings, and it has stuck. I even have a sticky note with this on my desk to remind myself when I feel like I'm not good enough.
What are you reading now?
I'm currently reading the Ivy Morgan series by Lily Harper Hart. I'm almost done with the current books in the series and plan to move onto another series.
I like to read a series completely through, only taking breaks when a new book from another series I've already read comes out.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Continuing to progress in my abilities as a writer. Every time I write a new book, I feel like I'm improving and plan to continue. I'm also learning about other social media to expand the exposure to my books.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Strangers by Dean Koontz. (I read this book every year. It is my favorite!)
A box set of Amanda M Lee books
A box set of a new cozy mystery author I haven't read yet ๐
