Interview With Author Bill Miller
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have been in the tech industry for over 50 years, the last 30 as a senior executive. There will be a second CEO-related book in 2023, and a third is planned. I love working with small and medium-sized company CEOs and division CEOs of larger companies. I have seen almost everything, including mergers, acquisitions, turnarounds, startups, and everything. I have become an expert at helping new CEOs uncover their blind spots and minimize or eliminate costly mistakes. Future books will address much of my expertise.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Rookie CEO, You Can't Make This Stuff Up! is my first book and was recognized with two awards in its first year of publication (2021). After working for nine first-time CEOs, I wanted to write this book to deliver education and entertainment to readers who are aspiring CEOs, new CEOs, and anyone interested in how companies are led behind the scenes.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unusual? Not sure about that, but I work with and talk to CEOs almost daily, capturing their stories and challenges and writing them down. I turn these into content on LinkedIn with Friday CEO Tips weekly and blog posts. My books are written on a schedule of 2-3 hour focus time slots on my calendar seven days a week.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
John C Maxwell, Stephen R Covey, Goeffrey Moore, Scott Allan, and many more
What are you working on now?
Projects include:
1. My next book about CEOs' challenges
2. CEO Sucess Story Webinars – 1-hour live interviews with CEOs
3. Blogs on my CEO Insights blog
4. Moderate a CEO Insights Panel at conferences
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Links can be found at https://linktr.ee/beelinebill
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Learn the process; study books in your genre. Identify your exact ideal reader and write for them.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Always be learning. Listen and Learn, & ask questions.
What are you reading now?
I always read advanced copies for other authors and focus on non-fiction business-oriented books. I have a handful of books in my library to read about coaching, content, online business building, online course building, and similar topics.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing the first draft of my next book. I am targeting Q1 2023 for publication. It will reference parts of The Rookie CEO for frameworks and specific contexts.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I never thought about it. Maybe 4 older John C Maxwell's leadership books.
