Interview With Author Bob Story
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Bob Story; I’m currently 40 years of age and I love Horror and Thrillers; anything supernatural inspires me. I’ve written 8 books, the first three were test books, just mostly for practice, the next two were intended as Goosebumps inspired, one I wrote under a pen name that I didn’t like and the last two more recently written are My pride and joy.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Delta Requiem: A Priest’s Reckoning.
It is the direct sequel to your first book, Mississippi Brimstone: A Priest’s Battle Against the Demonic.
What inspired it
Delta Requiem was inspired by the natural emotional and thematic evolution of Father Victor Hale’s character after the intense, active spiritual warfare of *Mississippi Brimstone*. Key inspirations included:
– The idea that victory in one battle doesn’t mean the war is over — demons (and guilt) can be patient, returning years later to collect on “unfinished business.”
– The concept of “silent collection”: moving away from dramatic levitation/bile/xenoglossy horror toward quieter, more existential dread — deaths that look natural but carry the faint smell of brimstone and a single blue-flame candle.
– Deepening Hale’s internal struggle: shifting focus from external exorcism rites to the personal cost of carrying unforgiven failures, especially his first major case (Daniel in 2005).
– Southern Gothic atmosphere: the Mississippi Delta, bayous, flooded graveyards, derelict riverboats, and decaying plantation houses as living, breathing settings that mirror Hale’s inner landscape of memory and reckoning.
– Catholic theology of forgiveness and release: the resolution comes not through another dramatic rite, but through Hale finally forgiving himself — a quieter, harder-won redemption that contrasts with the first book’s battle-focused climax.
The title Delta Requiem came from the desire to evoke both the geographic setting (the Delta) and the liturgical/mourning tone (Requiem), signaling a story about aftermath, memory, and final accounting rather than fresh possession. The subtitle A Priest’s Reckoning mirrors the first book’s A Priest’s Battle Against the Demonic for series branding while shifting the emphasis from external fight to internal judgment.
In short: Mississippi Brimstone was about the fight; Delta Requiem is about the long silence and cost after the fight — and whether one man can ever truly lay down the scars.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I treat my books as if they were living organisms, in their own universe. In short, My writing process is unusually methodical, sequential, and iterative — almost like building a cathedral one stone at a time, with constant concern for both the spiritual/liturgical authenticity and the final published artifact (cover, pricing, keywords, page count).
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Hands down; Stephen King and R.L. Stine; Mr. King has a place in my heart for his story telling alone; and with His more haunting titles becoming film adaptations. This is My goal, to one day see a title of Mine becoming a Film.
What are you working on now?
I am currently plotting Father Victor Hale’s next adventure as it were, Delta Requiem will be released on the 28th on Amazon, so I am not rushing into anything else at this moment, but I never stop thinking about My next move.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Right now, I am spamming on my personal Facebook profile and utilizing Amazon’s free promotion tools.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Go with your gut. I know it sounds silly but most of the time, your first idea is the best idea and never give up on your dream.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Your best critiques are your family members, but write for yourself and with your heart.
What are you reading now?
I am currently reading ” The Institute ” by Stephen King. I had recently watched the series adaptation and I love it.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am hoping that more people discover my work; and enjoy it as much as I do.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Institute and a basic wood working/crafting book(because I would be lost)
