Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a guitarist, writer and house husband living in Northern California. This is my second book and first with a new publisher called 10th Rule Books. My first was a Kindle Worlds book called Bringing Knives to Gunfights I did mostly for fun (actually everything I write is mostly for fun).
Mostly honestly I like to keep to myself. Plus I may be fictional myself.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Hell Book 1. It was inspired by the classic tough guy 80’s action movie line, “See you in Hell,” often uttered by the hero as he dispatches the bad guy. If there is a Hell, and I doubt there is, wouldn’t chanced be good they would meet again and continue whatever they were battling each other over. Some of my favorite power metal bands, such as Jag Panzer, Manowar, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Dio, provided further inspiration.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I do most of my writing at night, getting the best stuff done between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. I don’t ever do an outline, and never know how something is going to end when I start.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
For crime fiction Richard Stark, Elmore Leonard, and Robert Parker are my favorites, though there are plenty of newcomers like Greg Barth, Eric Beetner and Mike Monson doing great things in crime fiction.
Like everyone else I read a lot of Stephen King and Dean Koonz and it no doubt had an affect.
I also loved comics growing up and still kind of do. I should also give shoutouts to filmakers like John Carpenter, Robert Rodrigez, Quentin Tarintino, and Walter Will who influenced what I write as much or more than any novelist.
What are you working on now?
Hell Book 2
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Honestly I’m still trying to figure that one out. I hoping it is you guys, so far I’ve liked what I have seen.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’m a new author myself, so I may not be the best person for advice but if I must: Just do it first of all. Second spend a lot of time on the re-write and keep in mind less is probably more.
Beer can be your friend and don’t be afraid to be terrible because the first things you write will be (though you may think they are great).
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write. Elmore Leonards 10th rule (see a connection with my publisher?) from his 10 Rules of writing has proven to be helpful, basically he said ‘Leave out the boring parts.’
What are you reading now?
Garth Ennis Punisher Max volume 1, Ridgerunners by Rusty Barnes.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Probably massive failure. Hopefully I write another book better than the last one.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Rum Punch – Elmore Leonard
Comeback – Richard Stark
Life Expectancy – Dean Koonz
The Shining – Stephen King
