Interview With Author Bonnie L. Boyles
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Primarily I write from a Christian perspective but I felt compelled to write about spirits when I led a writers group and the topic was ‘How to write a ghost story.’ I believe in the spirit world and wanted to show that there is a positive connection between the living and the non-living. I introduce the reader to many facets of the spirit world that are believed by people around the world in the series: Helpful Spirit Series. I have written six-books. Two non-fiction, one Novel and three Novellas.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Again, I was inspired to write about the spirit world by teaching about the spirit world and ghosts. I wrote the series of three books in Helpful Spirit Series, as a way of drawing from experiences shared by other cultures and ethnicities. Molly and The Ghost introduces, ‘Keening Ceremonies and dives into the Salem Witch Trials,’ Private Zedekiah Bonham’s Ghost introduces mental health issues surrounding those who believe in ghosts and The Stagecoach spirits reveal animal spirit connections and drumming up spirits through music.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I run with it. In the writing of these three books I kept writing until I had nothing left to say for the day. Then I stopped. In some cases, the stories wrote themselves.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have always devoured real stories of hope and healing. Many Christian authors have helped me overcome my struggle with understanding the Bible and it’s meaning. I have no one favorite.
What are you working on now?
Having just finished the three novellas, I’m taking a break for a minute. I’m deciding if there will be a fourth in The Helpful Spirit Series or a follow-up to ; At Home On Manny’s Acres: A Place of Inclusion, a novel which was released last year.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon Ads
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write for the fun of it. We can’t all be Nicholas Sparks.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep writing!
What are you reading now?
On my nightstand is a book by Joan Lunden called, “Why Did I come into This Room,” that I dove head first into. She writes from first person accounts of growing old. Next to it is Sacred Tears by Lindsey Wheeler.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I don’t plan too far in advance. I can’t say what will move me to write about or even think about. I remain an ‘open book.’
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
‘The Bible’, (maybe with no distractions I will finally be able to understand it), ‘If You Want To Walk on Water, You’ve Got To Get Out Of The Boat’, by John Ortberg. It’s my all time favorite book that I have taught to four bible studies and read five times from cover to cover. My memoir, ‘Lowly Me and Jesus’, would have to come with me. When my body is found, they will know who I am!
