Interview With Author Brandon Smith
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a first-time published author.
I originally started writing this book for people I know who wanted to learn the guitar, but conflicting schedules made it difficult.
So I spent a year writing this book and decided it was really good.
It explains guitar theory the easiest way I knew how and I decided anybody should have a copy.
This is the first book I’ve ever written.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book is called Breaking The Chord Code: Guitar Theory for Beginners; Unlocked.
It’s a long title, but I worked a long time to determine what I wanted to call it.
I wanted something that was going to describe to the potential reader what it was about.
I had the idea for it years ago, but a lot of day jobs restricted it from never getting off the ground.
I knew some people who wanted to learn and I started writing it for them at first, and a year later, when I was finished, I decided to see if other people would be able to understand it.
I guess I wanted to see if it was good or not.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I start by sketching notes on printer paper and after a few weeks or months, I start writing the beginning and middle to convey what I want to get across.
I write the beginning later, and the end is the very last thing I write.
I usually write in front of the TV just so I don’t get too immersed in what I’m doing and start zoning out.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I use to read Maui Millionaires and Rich Dad, Poor Dad.
These books are amazing for growing your self-worth and making you appreciate what you have.
What are you working on now?
I am mostly working on promoting this book.
If it works out and is successful, I am going to write another one.
I can’t justify, at this time, writing something if the first book doesn’t go over well.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve been answering a lot of questions on Quora that relate to the material in the book.
You have to be careful not to answer too many too quick or you’ll get flagged for spam.
But also, Awesome Gang seems very promising.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you want to write a book, just do it.
Don’t let anything get in your way, and don’t tell people what you’re up to.
People are just negative and you don’t need that. Move in the shadows, so to speak.
Write diligently and often.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Price your book low. $0.99 to $2.99.
People don’t want to pay a fortune for an ebook.
What are you reading now?
I only read my book for write now, I proofread it a lot.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to write a lot of books about guitar theory.
Spoiler!
I am planning on writing another chord theory book that covers the other 13 types of chords.
Also, in the distant future, I plan on writing books about scales and how they relate to their chords.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Think and Grow Rich.
Looking at the Lights.
Breaking the Chord Code.
