Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
From as young as I can remember, I dreamed of being an author. I wrote my first ‘book’ in second grade, a twist on Little Red Riding Hood where the Big Bad Wolf turns out to be, well, not such a bad guy after all. For anyone who’s read my work, my ideas on the world clearly haven’t changed too much. A blessing or a curse?
I began reading, REALLY reading, in middle school, breezing through five book series’ in a week. In high school, my love of reading rekindled my love of writing. First, it was poetry, and then, full length novels. I had written five of them before I reached fifteen years old, not a single one ever published (and, most likely, not a single one ever will be).
My first published novel, and currently my only published novel, is my debut steamy romance novel, HOOKED ON YOU. I have many other works in progress, but we can talk about those later…
Aside from writing, I’m very passionate about history, nature, reading, puppies, and doing anything I can to help make a difference in the world. I love hiking and exploring, the beach is my happy place, and cooking for people makes me super excited. I am a hopeless romantic (but aren’t all artists?) with big dreams and a hopeful heart!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, which is my debut contemporary romance novel, is HOOKED ON YOU. It is a steamy love story that was inspired by the characters it centers around. Truthfully, it came to be when I thought up two amazing characters with their own battles and struggles. They showed me their flaws and begged me to redeem them, and I decided I’d find a way. That is how this novel came about. Two characters who wanted a chance.
I’d like to believe I gave them that chance and did right by them both!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
It seems as though I write the beginning and end of my book while thinking that I’m writing it in its entirety. I then look back and realize I missed half of the story and fill it all in afterwards! This is something new that I’ve noticed, so I’m trying to force myself to create (super brief) outlines now before starting a new story.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Julie Garwood, Cynthia Eden, and J. R. Ward are three authors that I love. Their writing style and character development really stood out to me when I first got back into my love of reading after a couple years of being out of it. While I’ve since branched out and have learned to love many other authors/books, these three were my first loves when it came to adult romance novels, and they’ll forever have a special place in my heart (and an automatic buy when they release new books on Amazon!).
What are you working on now?
I’m currently in the middle of several projects. One of them is part of the same universe that HOOKED ON YOU takes place in, starring one of my favorite supporting characters in the book. I’m also working on a paranormal romance short series of stand-alones, which has four different stories in it, a post-apocalyptic action/adventure/romance novel, a romantic suspense story, and some other (shorter) steamy contemporaries.
So, yeah… I’m a busy girl!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I honestly have no idea. This is all brand new to me, so I really couldn’t tell you what works and what doesn’t. All I know is that I really want my books to reach an audience, more than I want them to make me rich. Money’s not the driving force here, so I haven’t put as much into marketing and promoting as I probably should.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keeping writing! No matter what happens, no matter what obstacles you see in front of you, just keep writing. And make sure you’re doing it because you love it, not because you want money or fame or anything like that. Write because you can’t not write.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully I’ll stop bouncing from story to story and stick with one so another one of my babies can get published in the next few months, and, hopefully, reach people who will enjoy it!
