About Build your own language
“Build Your Own Programming Language” isn’t some big theory-heavy book. It’s more like — “hey, I was confused, curious, and wanted to figure out how all this stuff works… so I sat down and built one.”
This book is that journey.
It’s for developers who’ve built a few projects, tried a few languages, and now wonder — how do loops actually work? How does a compiler even understand what I’m typing?
I won’t throw heavy academic stuff at you. Instead, we’ll build it step by step — a real programming language from scratch. You’ll write the lexer, parser, interpreter, and all of that — but in a way that actually makes sense.
So if you’ve ever been curious about how programming languages work behind the scenes, this book is for you.
Just start. One step at a time. That’s all it takes.
And guess what? It even became an Amazon Best Seller — #83 in the Top 100 Bestselling Books and #1 in Kindle Textbooks.
For a brief moment, it actually surpassed J.K. Rowling and Stephen King. Wild, right? 😄

Author Bio:
I’m Affan Shaikhsurab — a software engineer, startup guy, and someone who’s been building random stuff since I was 16. From creating my own programming language and blockchain to launching apps that never took off, I’ve always been curious about how things work under the hood.
Writing this book wasn’t planned — it came out of me just sitting with a chai, feeling stuck, and deciding to figure out how languages actually work. I’m not from some big IIT or fancy background, just someone who loves learning and building.
Apart from tech, I love reading books that make you think (like The Alchemist), recording podcast episodes, and going on long walks where I talk to myself about life and ideas
