Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I think I was born with a book in my hands–ALWAYS loved reading, and didn’t get into writing until I was in my twenties. I love books, animals, cooking/baking, 70’s horror movies, and writing. I’ve written two books so far; one published, and another shortly on the way; a short poetry collection.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“The Shadow I Remember; The Father I Forgot” is a personal memoir. I had never connected with my Dad, and I like to think of this book as a tribute to his memory.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Trying not to spill my tea on the keyboard, lol….
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh my, too many to name!!! There are a great deal of influential writers and books…as far as aiding the creative process, a couple off the top of my head are “Be the Gateway” by Dan Blank, and “Writing Down the Bones” by Natalie Goldberg, two books I greatly recommend.
What are you working on now?
A book on the trials and tribulations of marriage, lol. Not sure if it’s going to be another memoir, but it’s definitely going to be packed with lots of interesting viewpoints, situations, outcomes, etc. I think it might be a pretty long book when I’ve finished; so far I’ve completed about 45 pages….and that’s just the good stuff, lol.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still branching out in the promotion business, but so far I have had very good responses from both Amazon and Google Play Books. And writers, don’t be afraid to toot your own horn!! This is an absolute must if you want attention to your work.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
NEVER GIVE UP!!!!! Every writer on the face of the Earth has gone through doubt, depression, frustration, etc. over their own writing from time to time. In the end, if you give up, the world will never discover that great book inside you.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t write to please everyone–# 1, it can’t be done, and #2, you will lose so much of yourself that way. If you believe in yourself and what you’re writing, others will, too.
What are you reading now?
In-between books at the moment, actually, but the last one I read was “Love, Loss and What We Ate” by Padma Lakshmi.
What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing!!! Connecting with readers and other writers; advertising my books; signing up with more great sites like “Awesome Gang”!!!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Very tough question!! It would be very hard to choose only 4…
