Interview With Author C.J. Lawrie
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I´m a very loving dog owner to two beautiful girls called Luna and Lula. I live in the south of Spain and spend most mornings drinking coffee in the sun whilst catching up on whatever book im reading at the time. As of now i´ve written the grand total of 1 book! Woofoscopes is my first foray into the world of book writing, I hope you enjoy it. If it does well I already have ideas for a second, even more detailed edition with some really cool illustrations, so get reading!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest and first book is called Woofoscopes: Discover Your Dogs Cosmic Personality & Astrological Insights.
I obviously love dogs, and i´ve always had dogs throughout my life whether be it living with my parents growing up to getting my first puppy my second month living away from home. I have a keen interest in astrology, which I inherited from my mother, and all the different things it can teach us about our selves. One day I was watching my two dogs playing in the garden and thought their personalitys were so different, I wonder if astrology has a part to play in it. So I started researching and writing notes and before I knew it my notes had turned into an article, and that article soon became too long to be called an article. So, here we are!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I actually write best when i´m sleep deprived! My creative juices really get going when im running on very minimal sleep, so much so that it keeps me awake all night sometimes.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I´ll never forget reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I remember thinking it was so raw and real, she didn´t hold back on describing some of the more harrowing incidents in the book. I would love to write a book like that one day.
What are you working on now?
Currently i´m looking at publishing an illustrated edition of Woofoscopes. Watch this space.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Use any free promoting tools you can, even if its a small independent website that just puts you in their newsletter once. Make sure you offer an online edition of your book for promoted ´free´ days, especially if you´re a new author like myself. For the first few months you want to get as many people as possible reading your book and writing reviews.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just start writing. Even if you dont have a coherent idea, just write something, anything down. You´d be surprised how quickly the creative juices can get flowing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Always check you have dog poo bags before you go on a dog walk, there´s nothing worse than the shame of having people observe you not pick up your dogs poop.
What are you reading now?
I´m currently reading Silo by Hugh Howie and i´m loving it so far.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully getting my Woofoscopes eBook published as a paperback or hardback! Though I might wait for the second edition for that.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
SAS Survival Handbook” by John ‘Lofty’ Wiseman
“Meditations” by Marcus Aurelius
“The Lovely Bones” by Alice Sebold (i´ve read it about 5 times already)
