Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hey, gang! I’m a Michigan mom who writes romantic adventure fantasy. So far, I’ve written twelve novels and novellas, and counting.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, soon to be released by 48fourteen Publishing, is The Duchess’s Descendants (Jordinia: Book 3). It’s the third book in my Jordinia series and was inspired while listening to an episode of Stuff You Should Know Podcast about the Lewis & Clark expedition.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
As a mom, I have learned to write virtually anywhere with anything going on around me. I wrote the majority of my first book, The Duchess Quest, to the soundtrack of my toddler watching The Wiggles!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
J.K. Rowling influenced me to create my very own world. Dan Brown showed me how not to be afraid of being a little cheesy, and how to fluctuate POVs between main protagonists, villains, and even background characters. And Theresa Weir taught me that enemies-to-lovers romances can be super sexy.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a new book in my Jordinia series! It is technically book #4 in the series, but is the 5th Jordinia story, if one includes my prequel novella.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use Johnny Andrews, Arial Burnz and the gang at Author Platform Rocket. They specialize in growing mailing lists for genre fiction authors.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write a popular genre, like paranormal romance, and write a series! I wish I would’ve done that from the get-go. Also, if you’re self-publishing, be sure to hire an editor first. Lastly, it’s never too late to start building your social media and newsletter following.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My uncle once told me to “strive for excellence, not perfection”. As artists, we’re perfectionists, but the truth is, there’s no such thing as perfect art. His advice taught me how to finally let go and walk away, stop tweaking things, and just let a project be completed.
What are you reading now?
I’m finishing up Ally Carter’s Embassy Row series!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a new fantasy adventure trilogy in mind…but for now, I’m still outlining my next Jordinia installment. ๐
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Can I cheat and just say I’d take my Kindle Paperwhite?? Hehe!
