Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
By day, I’m an Administrative Assistant in Human Resources for my local municipality. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. I’m the co-chair of my workplace wellness program, planning and coordinating wellness activities and writing articles for monthly wellness newsletters. I’m also a certified Wellness Coach and Weight Management Specialist. By night, I write, something I’ve loved to do since I was in elementary school.
I’ve been blogging since 2009; my current blog is VitalAging4Women. Creating a blog and researching about wellness and aging taught me a great deal, and helped me develop self-confidence in my writing skills. Finally, in 2017, I gathered the courage to step out of my comfort zone and write my first book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is titled “The Art of Sane Aging for Women.”
For many years, I let fear and a great deal of emotional baggage keep me from reaching my dream of writing a book. But after the sudden death of my brother, when I was 42, I reached a turning point in my life. I chose a different attitude toward life, and took action to change what I could. Changing my attitude made all the difference in my life. I wanted to write a book and help other women do the same.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Jumping out of bed in the middle of the night to scribble an idea on a scrap of paper, hoping I can make sense of it the next day!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Dr. Partha Nandi, “Ask Dr. Nandi.”
Brene Brown, “The Gifts of Imperfection.”
Jack Canfield, “The Success Principles.”
What are you working on now?
My second book, tentatively titled: “Sane Aging Strategies for Women: Mind, Body, and Soul”
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My social media preferences are Facebook and Twitter. Because this is my first book, I’ve been trying to come up with the best options for marketing, and Google has certainly helped me with my research.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you have a dream of writing a book, don’t let it go. Be persistent, stay on the path; but be patient with yourself, as well. Seek support from your family or friends if you feel like giving up.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be willing to fail. Failure can be a stepping stone to success.
What are you reading now?
“Why We Write,” edited by Meredith Maran
What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep promoting my book, and continue my research for my second one. I will also be pursuing some additional coaching certification.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
