Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am the Chief Executive Officer of Martell Broadcasting Systems, Inc. I am also the founder of the Power Up TV multi-channel network (acquired by Thunder Digital Media in January 2015).
I formerly served as the Vice President of Thunder TV, the internet television division of Thunder Digital Media. Prior to my role at MBS, Inc. I had a career as a video game developer and journalist.
I also moonlight as the host of The RPG Fanatic Show, an internet television show which has accumulated over 3.7 million views.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Pandemonia Chronicles is my latest book. The plot centers around a teenage boy named Gestalt who becomes possessed by the spirit of a defeated demon king. This automatically makes him an enemy of the Goddess of Life and her Paladin knights, who seek to destroy him in order to eradicate the demon king once and for all. The book deals with the gray line between good and evil, and explores some of the taken for granted tropes of the fantasy genre.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to hide pop culture references in my work. Conducting a Google search on some of the spell names in the book might bring up some interesting results.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
This book is inspired by video game series, more than anything else. The Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy series are big inspirations, but so is World of Warcraft and Ragnarok Online.
What are you working on now?
I am preparing a few dozen manuscripts for publication, mostly in the non-fiction arena. One of these is an encyclopedia about mythological objects.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Email, Facebook and reddit. Having a website helps, too.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write blog articles that solve problems for people. My personal website www.careymartell.com receives over 10,000 views a month to blog articles I have written.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t give up on your dreams.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to finish the next book in the Pandemonia Chronicles series.
