Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am 63 years old. My first book was my award-winning book What Happened to Suzy. I crossed genres when I wrote an employment law book, Your Rights What Employers do not want you to know! I want to fight illiteracy. My father could not read or write. He truly has been my inspiration!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Noah True Love Never Dies
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I listen to relaxing music when I write. Music allows me to go places where I normally would not be able to access! When I turn the music on its usually soft music, Frank Sinatra, or Nat King Cole. This allows me truly to get into a character.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Renata Lanzoni Shattered Moon. I love Manchild in the Promised Land and Goodbye SaraJane by Sequoya Griffin! Each of these books has influenced my life. Shattered Moon was about Domestic Violence. Manchild in the Promised Land taught me how to grow up in the ghetto and Goodbye SaraJane was an awesome book about the Foster care system.
What are you working on now?
Nothing! Recently, I have been reading my new book, Noah True Love Never Dies. Guess what? I love the book!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon.com. With an Author Page and easy access, why build a website when Amazon does everything?
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get a great editor. Save up now. If the book is not ready rejection will become your worst enemy. It’s a lot of money to edit a book. Believe me, the effort will be well worth it in the end!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You can’t put spilled milk back in the bottle!” This metaphor teaches you how to move on and not fret over something that is a setback!
What are you reading now?
Shattered Moon by Renata Lanzoni
What’s next for you as a writer?
To find Noah. He is a character in the new book that made me recognize what love is. If I could find Noah and thank him for loving me, that would be a great fulfillment to this and these efforts of writing my new book, Noah True Love Never Dies.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Rovella Starr, A Loved Starved Bitch, Goodbye SaraJane and Shattered Moon. Of course, I would end it with another read of Manchild in the Promised Land.
