Interview With Author Carrie Scharf
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Carrie and I’m originally from California but live in West Virginia. I’m a homeschool and special needs mom who makes skincare and loves to play the clarinet. I have 3 books on skincare. One I call Carrie’s Skincare Cookbook, for beginners who want to make their own personalized skincare, one called The Cozy Bath, and one on herbal infused skincare.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Herbal Infused skincare: How to use herbs and flowers for glowing skin. I was having fun creating powdered facial cleansers for myself and mascara for a friend and thought I’d put all the recipes together in a book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Hmmm… I don’t think so? I usually write in the middle of the day whenever I can get a chance while the kids are busy.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Jane Austen and other classics. I enjoy reading Gabriel García Márquez especially
Love in the Time of Cholera. I’m also a big fan of sci- fi and fantasy.
What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m writing about making and using botanical extracts such as decoctions, infusions, and tinctures.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Recently it has been twitter.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you don’t know a published author, find reputable ones on YouTube. I have learned a lot from listening to people’s experiences in their YouTube videos.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I think Nikki Banas says it wonderfully in Walk the Earth:
Be you
You don’t need to prove yourself to anyone. You don’t need to spend your energy trying to earn other’s acceptance or waste your time trying to explain yourself. You don’t need to justify your ideas to others who won’t understand.. My beautiful friend, just be you. Spend your time doing your thing. Spend your energy learning and growing. Pour yourself into your ideas and dreams and let go of what others are saying… Because in the end, it just doesn’t matter what they think- it only matters what you think.
What are you reading now?
I often read many books at once, depending on my mood. Currently, I’m reading The Time Of My Life by Cecelia Ahern, Mind, Body and Soul Part 1: Mind Over Matter by J.A. Molvanie, and The Comfort Book by Matt Haig.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m currently working on online skincare making courses. You’ll be able to find more info on my blog when they are live.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and the Complete Works of Shakespeare.
