Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a really down to earth guy with pie in the sky dreams, so I’m a bit cliche, even though I hate the thought of being in a mold. First and foremost, I’m a Christian, so a lot of what I write comes from that point of view. I have two published books, The Gadarene and Through the Needle. They are both novellas.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Through the Needle. It’s the story of the Apostle Paul after he was converted and sitting blind in Damascus. I thought the meeting between him and a man named Ananias (a Christian who was tasked with going to meet a known murderer of Christians) must have been a huge challenge of faith for both of them. The story is my exploration of that idea.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wish! I guess I could try writing with an eye patch or something.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I grew up reading the Dark Elf books by R.A. Salvatore. I loved his imagery, and that became a big focus in my writing. Recently, I’ve been a big fan of Ted Dekker. I like his fusion of spiritual truth and inspiration with strong plot structure and pacing.
What are you working on now?
I have a couple things in the works. I have another novella in the revision process and a young adult fantasy novel.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m experimenting right now. Maybe this one?!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Learn the craft. Practice the craft. Don’t put anything out there until someone other than your mom says it’s good.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Dreams are great but goals are better. Dreams happen while you’re asleep. Wake up and work to accomplish your goals.
What are you reading now?
Salvatore actually. I had a thirteen year hiatus and felt it calling to me.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m working on building my author platform, expanding my reach so that I can be a help and inspiration to as many people as I can.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Lord of the Flies or Treasure Island because I love irony. I don’t know other than that. Mystery or a thriller would be a bad idea because I’d only be able to read it once. I don’t love that kind of irony.
