Interview With Author Charles Allen
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an Arizona native, born and raised. I balance life as a dad, business professional, and writing. I completed both my undergraduate and master’s degrees at Arizona State University. My fascination with storytelling began early, writing my first screenplay when I was 10-years-old. Today, write compelling works in horror, historical fiction, and science fiction; mostly with dark and mysterious narratives that explore sociological, psychological, and technological themes.
I’ve released several short stories as well as my first novel Club Llithium.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Club Llithium. I outlined the whole plot one morning after having a dream about the premise one night.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I naturally wake up at 3am and write till about 5am, I’ve noticed I tend to write garbage if I try to do it during regular business hours.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Michael Crichton was my favorite as a young adult, I read everything I could get m hands on by him. However it wasn’t until I read Neil Gaiman in college that my passion for becoming an author myself became real.
What are you working on now?
A historical fiction and sci-fi mashup related to George Washington. Sounds crazy right? But I just love the premise and history too much to not write something I’ve thought about for such a long time.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook and AMS
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Ironically, writing the book might end up being the easiest part. Getting it published and marketing it are much more difficult experiences.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Kill your adverbs with extreme prejudice during the editing process.
What are you reading now?
Holly by Stephen King
What’s next for you as a writer?
Grow my readers via Club Llithium and release my next novel over the summer.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
American Gods by Neil Gaiman
State of Fear by Michael Crichton
Animal Farm by George Orwell
