Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an ordinary girl, even though my mum would say ‘extraordinary’, constantly day dreaming about books I have read or books I am writing. Although I’m only twenty, I have loved, lost, battled with depression, healed my broken heart and have many more adventures I’m passionate to share. If you see any jargon in my writing that will be either my Essex slang or my furball Angel, pawing away at the keyboard asking for a little more attention.
fun fact, I’m obsessed with the colour pink and chia lattes.
I have written one book called, Once a Year, By Charlotte Rose. I am currently writing book two of the sequel.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Once a Year, by Charlotte Rose.
The story, Once a Year starts on a beautiful Greek island, called Poros, where I go every summer with my family, So it was inspired by my own life, I would say it’s 50% reality, 50% fiction. My book was originally a self help diary, a way of me coping in a difficult time of my life, allowing me to express my emotions. I never planned for Once a Year to be a book, let alone being published to the world! What gave me the push to publish Once a Year was, my passion to help other young people, who are struggling with similar issues, to be their hand to hold.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure if it is unusual, but I take breaks and when a say breaks, that could be a month long break. If you’re blocked, it’s a sign to stop writing for the time being! There’s no point sitting and forcing words out, because you won’t believe in what you’re writing. Inspiration will come again at the right time.
Also, I write my notes on a pink pad, with a fluffy pink piggy pen.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
‘The Way I Use to Be’ by Amber Smith, is my all time favourite book. I was lost for words, this book is one of the most powerful books I have ever read. This story is so delicate and raw with deep emotional. I don’t cry at books but I cried at this, I got angry, I got sad I felt every emotion my body was capable to feel. I don’t even know if I would call it a book, it’s as if I was holding a heart or a broken soul, I cradled this book and when I was finished I didn’t want to put it down.
What are you working on now?
I am currently writing the second book of the, Once a Year, sequel, I have not yet chosen a title.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook, this social media has young to old, it has groups for everything.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what your heart wants to write. I never actually set out to write my first book, it’s not something that can be forced. Believe in what you are writing and just go with it, never give up.
If someone says you can’t, prove you can. You can achieve anything you want, if you apply yourself. I’m dyslexic and have struggled throughout my life. I don’t think anyone believed I could write and publish a book until I did, so if I can, you can.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Go with the flow
What are you reading now?
I’m not, I have hit a wall trying to find a book right for me to read.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully for Once a Year to reach many young people, to inspire and help them.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Way I Use to Be, Amber smith, Because it deserves awards!
Once a Year by me, because I’m proud of that.
Whats a Girl gutta do by Holly Bourne because girl power wooo! or a Language translator if I was to be more logical about the situation.
