Author Bio:
P. G. Parks writes books about those things close to the human heart. As an indie author, her debut novel, Chasing Shadow, received five-star reviews from both readers and reviewers, on Amazon.ca
• Chasing Shadow is a well-crafted, incredibly impactful, and atmospheric slice of the struggle-filled life of a loveable young teen.
— Gabriella Batel, Reedsy Reviewer
• This young adult novel manages to cover several difficult themes with grace, assisted by strong writing and solid plotting. Many have tried to write about these themes and failed miserably, but Parks succeeds. The young characters feel real, and the situations they encounter are all too read. It’s rare to find books that can discuss animal abuse in a way that isn’t so traumatic that it leaves the reader distraught; here, while we feel the impact, we also are inspired by the acts of compassion depicted. Life in poverty as a child is also depicted realistically and with grace. This is a kid’s book of the finest kind — one that teaches but within the framework of a compelling story.
— Allister N. Thompson, Freelance Editor
• Chasing Shadow is a must-read for anyone who has owned or wanted to own a dog. I had a difficult time putting the book down. Many chapters end with cliffhangers which beg the reader to continue. Being a dog trainer herself, Parks weaves some dog training tips into the story which adds interesting facts. The 13-year-old main character tries to cope, living with his dysfunctional family, and deals with constant bullying at school and in the neighborhood. If he just had his canine companion, Shadow, life would be so much better. This reader is anxiously awaiting Book Two.
