Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Chelby Tannon is my pen name. I work in the public sector and have raised 4 girls. I enjoy hiking the trails of Roxborough Colorado and going to Bear Creek Lake Park to paddle board and kayak. I have currently written and published one book. I am working on my second with the intent of a third. I made the decision to start writing as a form of therapy and it has blossomed into a real passion.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my first book is “Where In The Hell Is Jamestown North Dakota?” I lived in Jamestown for the better part of 10 years, and while the book is fictional, there are real life places that I use in the book to bring ‘life’ to it.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do not know if my habits are unusual, I generally write when I am bored, or when I get an idea that I do not want to just jot down. I have found that when I write ideas down for the book, they end up going in a different direction than the initial thought entailed.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
J.K. Rowling influenced me just because of her situation when she was starting out. It takes guts to create something, and then hand it over to the world.
What are you working on now?
I am working on the sequel to the first book. The title of my second book is “Where In The Hell Is Roxborough Colorado?” This book follows Pamela Morgan, the main character in the first of the series through new adventures, new mysteries, and a new life.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I try using Goodreads.com as well as Amazon.com. I also promote on InstaGram and Facebook. I am not sure these are the “best” methods, but they are the methods I use.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My only advice is to just do it! It’s a scary journey, but once you hold a physical copy of your book in your hand, it is worth it all.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have ever heard is this;
Do not worry about sales, those will come. Just write your story, because that is what your faithful readers care about and they matter most.
What are you reading now?
Currently I am waiting for the arrival of The Thin Wall, written by E.M. Parker.
What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next for me is finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology while I finish the second book in my series. I am hoping also, that I am able to do book signings very soon in Jamestown North Dakota.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell, as that is my all time favorite story. I would also bring Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and lastly I would bring my own book. Holding my book for the first time was like holding a newborn child, and I wouldn’t want to never see it again.
