Interview With Author Chiara Benedetta Condorelli
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a freelance writer and translator dealing with Italian, English and French, and as of recent, I added Spanish and German. I help Individuals and companies promote their products and services worldwide. I wrote and self-published three Italian books, three English books, a fashion portfolio and an English book under a pen name. So I wrote and self-published eight books in total.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Slán To Sláinte: A short story”. Its story takes place in Galway. “Fáil-te: A short story”, “The Rebel Murphy: A short story” and “Slán To Sláinte: A short story” are all self-contained stories, and the only element in common between them is that they’re set in the same country: Ireland. They were all inspired by my direct experiences while I was on the Emerald Isle.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, I don’t. I mean, not that I’m aware of.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Colleen McCullough, Sophie Kinsella, Michel Faber, Bret Easton Ellis, B.P. Paris. Not in this particular order.
What are you working on now?
I’m gathering material for a short story, but I’m taking it slow, especially since I just published my last book (under a pen name).
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I used to have a website, but it just didn’t work. I stick to social media platforms. I especially enjoy making my own book trailers, uploading them to my YouTube channel. Right now, I’m getting more feedback on Facebook, X and Instagram.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do your very best every single time.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Remember: It costs nothing to encourage an artist, and the potential benefits are staggering. A pat on the back to an artist now could one day result in your favorite film, or the cartoon you love to get stoned watching, or the song that saves your life. Discourage an artist, you get absolutely nothing in return, ever”.
Source of the quote: “Tough Sh*t: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good” by Kevin Smith.
What are you reading now?
Nothing, except the texts that I’m writing and translating. However, now that the holidays are approaching, I will definitely pick up some new books.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I finished writing books, but I won’t stop writing. I just ran out of things that would fit into a book without forcing, so I will focus on short stories. It’s possible that one day I will change my mind, but right now, these are my plans.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I guess right now I would answer: “Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber” by Adele Lang, “The Crimson Petal and the White” by Michel Faber, “Glamorama” by Bret Easton Ellis and “L’Assommoir” by Émile Zola. But if you ask me this question tomorrow, or next month, my answer might be different.
