Interview With Author Chisonari Emenike
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m glad you asked. I am a Nigerian-born writer and creator currently exploring the world a place at a time. My work is defined by the intersection of mystery, fantasy, and the psychology of self-love. Beyond the page, I am the founder of the Visionari Tribe, a global community dedicated to reclaiming the protagonist narrative in one’s own life. While I have been building worlds and narratives for so many years, The Detective Therapy represents the cornerstone of my literary journey, blending genre-fiction with deep personal development.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Detective Therapy. While it is a high stakes mystery meets urban fantasy set in the elite Guépard Academy, the inspiration is deeply personal. I wrote this for every girl who feels like she has to stay invisible to stay safe. Gabriella Peters’ “Gift” of Visions feels like a curse because it forces her to be seen, and I wanted to explore that fear of being “exposed.” This book is a call to action for readers to stop hiding and start reclaiming their voices. I want them to realize that the ‘Vandals’ in their lives — the people or voices that try to silence them — can be defeated once you decide to be the detective of your own destiny.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m a vibe-curator. I can’t just sit and type; I have to build a sonic world. I have specific frequencies and playlists for every character. If a scene feels flat, it’s usually because the music isn’t hitting right. I also tend to talk to my characters as if they’re in the room. If Gabriella isn’t giving me the truth, we have a “meeting” until she does.
I also practice what I call “Visionari Mapping,” where I treat my characters’ psychological growth with as much detail as the actual plot. I need to feel their confidence — or lack thereof — in my own body before I can write it.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m drawn to the architects of atmosphere. I love stories where the setting feels alive and a bit dangerous. I’ve always admired creators and authors who understand that a story is a vehicle for a bigger message. I don’t just want you to read a book; I want you to feel a shift in your own confidence. Also, I love works where the setting feels like a character itself — much like Guépard Academy in my own book. I am influenced by writers who can weave social commentary into high-stakes genre fiction without losing the heart of the story.
What are you working on now?
Counting down to March 4th! I’m currently hyped over the launch of The Detective Therapy and making sure the Visionari tribe has everything they need to step into their power this year. Between the book launch and building out the tribe’s digital space, my hands are full. But my mind is already drifting toward the next mystery in Emerald Ville, so everyone stay tuned!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Authenticity and vulnerability is the only currency that matters. I don’t “promote.” I connect. I use my platforms to share the philosophy behind the book. When people see the heart of the Visionari movement, the book becomes a natural part of their journey. It’s about building a tribe, not just a customer base.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
YES! Stop waiting for the world to validate you. I see so many talented girls hiding behind “someday.” My advice? Claim your voice now. Move like the protagonist. The world doesn’t give you a seat at the table; you show up and build your own.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“The future belongs to the Visionari.” It’s not just a slogan; it’s a lifestyle. It’s the reminder that if you can see it, you can be the one to create it.
What are you reading now?
Well, I’m currently oscillating between psychological thrillers that keep me on my toes, mysteries that leave me second-guessing every move the characters make, and deep-dives into human behavior. I love a book that makes me question what I’d do in the protagonist’s shoes.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Evolution. And growth. I want to keep pushing the boundaries of what “Mystery” can do. I’m looking at ways to make the Visionari experience even more immersive. The goal isn’t just to write books; it’s to change the way an entire generation of girls sees their own potential.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. A massive, leather-bound mystery collection (for the thrills).
2. A life-changing personal development guide (for the mindset).
3. A completely empty journal because if I’m on an island, I’m definitely writing the next great mystery.
