Interview With Author Chris Fox
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I work as a teacher and I write novels in my spare time. So far, I have written two books – Dreams (published in 2022), and White Nile (published in November 2024). Outside of writing, I enjoy cricket, football and walking in the countryside. Oh, and reading. Lots of reading!
@CDFoxAuthor
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
White Nile
I wanted to write a conventional thriller, with fast-paced action and lots of twists and turns. When I had a dream about walking the streets of an unfamiliar city, I decided to make that the opening couple of chapters. The protagonist is an Iraq War veteran who reminisces about his time in the city of Khartoum, Sudan, and how me makes a discovery that places him at the heart of a global crisis.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. But any writing session ALWAYS begins with a coffee. The stronger the better!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Kazuo Ishiguro’s ‘The Remains of the Day’ is the yardstick I use to measure other novels. Currently, I’m into British historical fiction, and Ken Follett and Edward Rutherford are high on my list of good reads.
What are you working on now?
The direct sequel to White Nile. I don’t have a name for it yet, but I can reveal that part of the plot involves an international crisis over nuclear weapons material
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Well, when X was called Twitter, it was pretty good. Not so much now! My own website has plenty of information, and it can be accessed at www.cdfox.weebly.com
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be resilient! Writing is hard and is fraught with knock-backs. But regardless of what this cruel world throws at you, don’t give up. Keep writing!
What are you reading now?
Just finishing Edward Rutherford’s ‘London’. After that, I’ll be starting something by an indie author who’s become a friend on X
What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully sell a few copies of White Nile and finish off the sequel
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
3 or 4 that I haven’t yet read. In fact, other than my own ones, I’ve never read a book more than once
