Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written two books to date. The first was a martial art book and now my novel.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novel is called Mommy, I Don’t Want To. I was inspired by a real life mysterious criminal and his crime spree that took place during the mid 70s up to the mid 80s.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well kind of . I wrote this book while living in a historical place in China. The area I was living at the time is called Songshan Shaolin. It is the village just outside the famous Shaolin Temple birth place of martial arts and Chan Buddhism .
I would begin writing as soon as I woke up. Often is was while sitting on the toilet and drinking coffee. After spending several hours on writing ,I would take a walk down a lovely quiet road with the awesome view of the Songshan mountains.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
While writing Mommy, I Don’t Want To I read several books that helped inspire me. Some of the books I read for inspiration were Psycho, First Blood, Death Wish, Death Sentence, The Hellbound Heart and A Clockwork Orange. All are famous cult classics films which came from novels.
What are you working on now?
I am waiting for some inspiration. I do not want to write for the sake of writing. I am only concerned with writing a masterpiece which I feel Mommy, I Don’t Want To is. When I get strongly inspired again is when I will write my next book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I still do not know sorry.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do not make yourself the focus point. Think of writing a great story and inspiring others. If fame comes it comes, but it should not make it your reason for writing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There are several pieces of good advice I learned when figuring out how to write a novel. One was make an outline first, instead of just siting down and trying to write a whole book from beginning to end. Another is write in the morning, the brain is fresh and that seems to help. Then there is enjoy the victories. Don’t be too hard on yourself and whatever progress you make enjoy it.
What are you reading now?
I am looking for a new great book to read. I have tried several and unfortunately stopped midway through due to lake of interest. I am a picky reader.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to promote my current book, I feel it would make a great film. Let’s see what happens.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Warriors, Death Wish and Death Sentence, A Clockwork Orange and one new one that looks intriguing.
