About Christianity and Reincarnation by Douglas M. Dubrish
It is commonly assumed in the Western world that reincarnation is not a principle recognized in Christianity. However, historical evidence suggests otherwise. The Doctrine of Reincarnation was a solid principle taught by the Catholic Church for the first 400 years of Christianity. This principle was believed to have been taught by Jesus to his Apostles. Nevertheless, in 543 A.D., the Roman Emperor Justinian declared Origen of Alexandria a heretic, and he, along with other Christian Churches, was excommunicated for teaching the Doctrine of Reincarnation. The removal of this principle from Christianity may have been politically motivated.
Recent archaeological discoveries, such as the Dead Sea Scrolls (found in 1947) and the Hag Hammadi Library (found in 1945), have shed light on the Essene Community, a branch of which included Jesus and his family, who were known as Nazarenes. The Essene doctrine taught reincarnation. However, Catholic monks who hand-copied the Bible over the centuries omitted almost all references to reincarnation beginning in 543. Martin Luther, a Catholic Priest ordained in 1507, broke away from the church in 1517, which led to the Protestant movement. Even today, Protestant denominations like Baptist, Congregationalist, Methodist, and Lutheran use the King James Bible, which was translated from the Catholic Bible that omitted any references to reincarnation. This book provides an in-depth exploration of the Doctrine of Reincarnation and its history in Christianity. It includes a Discussion Guide for reading groups.
