Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Author of Girl Z: My Life as a Teenage Zombie and my latest, Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter
I also write short stories and nonfiction books on dollhouse miniatures.
NOTE: If you run this, it might be good to hold it until March 20 – the Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter ebook will be on sale March 20-26 for 99 cents.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
This year marks the 125th anniversary of the Borden murders.
Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter – Looking at the autopsy records and photos I wondered… what if Lizzie did kill her father and stepmother… because she had no other choice?
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No more unusual than anyone else, I suppose. Though you can look up strange topics as a mystery and horror fiction writer…
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve long enjoyed reading Stephen King, of course. I read in a variety of genres and topics. I admire the historical works of Philippa Gregory.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a supernatural-flavored mystery novella set in Lizzie Borden’s hometown, and also working on Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter 2.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Newsletter swaps with other authors work well, as do getting involved in online book events.
Visitors can also stop by my blog, GirlZombieAuthors, http://girlzombieauthors.blogspot.com.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing. And it’s worth getting involved in a critique group with other published authors.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t give up.
What are you reading now?
I just finished reading Philippa Gregory’s The Virgin’s Lover. I often read several books at once, so in progress includes: Hunger, Witch’s Trinity by Erika Mailman and Haunted by Lynn Carthage (also Mailman.)
What’s next for you as a writer?
So many ideas! I’d like to finish the novella and next book, and finish up some short mysteries, as well.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That would be hard! I like to reread Bram Stoker’s Dracula, maybe Gone with the Wind, and I’d have to have a couple historicals in there too.
