Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Seattle and went to film school to learn how to become a director. The movie business is tough to break into and I eventually decided to stop pursuing that career. Mostly because I love movies so much and making them takes the magic away. It’s like being backstage at a play. I transitioned into short stories because all it cost me was my time and have grown to love writing the way I used to love film-making. I’ve published 8 stories and I’ve written 4 others that I’m busy editing.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Vraniga. I originally thought of the idea roughly 15 years ago. I was curious about how dictators came about and how they evolved into monsters.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so. Coffee is essential to my creative process.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King, Michael Crichton, and Richard Matheson are a few.
What are you working on now?
Many new ideas, summaries, and 4 stories I wrote earlier this year that I’m trying to finish, but enjoying it along the way.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesomegang!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Consistency. Write almost everyday, taking 1 or 2 days off a week to rest and allow yourself to be inspired. Take a recorder or notepad everywhere you go. Have backups. Write down anything that you feel is an idea, good or bad. I don’t know how many times a basic idea blossomed into a full-fledged story.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There is no writer’s block.
What are you reading now?
NOT TACO BELL MATERIAL as shouted at Mike Lynch by Adam Carolla
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope I live long enough, I’ll put it that way. I’m so behind. I need more time to write everything I want to.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I have 5. JURASSIC PARK, OF MICE AND MEN, THE MIST, ENDER’S GAME, and I AM LEGEND.
