Interview With Author CM Jr. Surowiec
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a debut author, and launch my first book on May 21, 2022. I was born in Orlando,Florida, raised in Los Angeles, California, and relocated to Upstate New York from grade school on.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“DragonSin” is the name of my book. I wrote a short story in college and during the pandemic decided to expound upon it. My children were not only the catalyst, but continued to give me inspiration as they were both Alpha and Beta readers.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to take my laptop with me to Taco Bell and after I eat lunch crank out a thousand word challenge. Sometimes I even achieve it!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks has had the biggest impact on me from a literary perspective. It was the first book I ever read by choice, and it began a life long love for reading.
What are you working on now?
I am currently writing Book #2 a sequel to “DragonSin”. I plan to release the name and cover art around Thanksgiving time.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I struggle with marketing and promoting (and would rather be writing!), so I am the worst person to ask. Please let me know how and where I should be promoting my books! (lol)
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I was worried about only launching my book on Amazon, so I scrambled to set up two other sites before launch date. It turns out (in retrospect), that decision diluted my sales across multiple platforms, instead of driving my ranking up in just one initially. I would recommend a rolled launch, add a new site every 4-6 weeks.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You should strive for at least 8-10 Beta Readers. My Betas helped me improve my story immensely.
What are you reading now?
A Clash of Kings by G. Martin
What’s next for you as a writer?
I really want to finish the trilogy, so I plan on trying to focus my attention on that for the next couple of years.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
DragonSin by CM Surowiec Jr (duh!)
The Sword of Shannara by T. Brooks (already read it 3 times why not 4?)
Six of Crows by L Bardugo (Love this book)
Homeland by RA Salvatore (another book I have read many times)
