Interview With Author Colm Hearne
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m 32-years-old and I’m from Ireland. I’ve only written one book so far but I plan to write and publish many more books and stories. I’ve been writing ever since I was a kid and always dreamed of becoming a published author.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first published book is called “A Legend of Tara: Fionn the Reviver” It has gotten great reviews both on Amazon and Goodreads and has sold over two hundred copies so far. What inspired me to write it were books and movies about fantasy and adventure like “Redwall”, “The Chronicles of Narnia” and “The Lord of the Rings.”
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I seem to come up with different ideas for different stories and I make a note of them. I try to write even a little every day.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My influences include Brian Jacques, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and Roald Dahl. Their books inspired me to come up with my own series or fantasy world.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on getting a literary agent or a publisher for my next book “A Legend of Tara: The Lost Brother.” I’m also writing my third book “A Legend of Tara: Boru the Mighty” and I’ve written a comic book script as well.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’d tell new authors if you want to succeed in writing, read and write every day and if you have an idea for a story make a note of it so you won’t forget. Also never be discouraged if your book or story gets rejected because every author, no matter how talented or successful, has been rejected at some point.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading a few different books at the moment. I’m reading “The Princess Bride,” “The Horse and His Boy”, an Iron Man comic and “Confronting Christianity.”
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to become a comic book writer as I’m very interested in comics as well.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
They would be “The Hobbit”, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”, “The Witches” and “Redwall”.
