Interview With Author Craig Prusansky
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a retired from a 30+ year career in emergency services in New York, Massachusetts, and Florida
Since retiring from emergency services in 2016, I now work in technology for emergency services, specifically computer-aided dispatch and electronic patient care records systems.
When I’m not writing, I enjoy spending time with my family and coaching youth softball.
I have only written 1 book so far, but I am about to start my second and have the concept for a third on on paper as well.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
SAVED BY SECONDS is the name of my latest book. After I retired, I had always wanted to write a memoir of my experiences in emergency services because it has so many moments, both good and bad, that I wanted to share with everyone. I love giving people insight to what we really do out there.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I find that I do my best writing in the middle of the night when I am having trouble sleeping.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Dennis Smith. He did a lot for firefighting by documenting what they did, and also was the editor of Firehouse Magazine.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a romance novel about a pop star who falls in love with a paramedic who treated her at a concert after she injured herself.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Since I am relatively new at this, I am still feeling this one out. So far, Facebook has been the best outlet, but I am just now starting a little more aggressive marketing. Ask me again in 6 months. 🙂
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t be afraid to just do it. With platforms like KDP, it is much easier now to have your works published than ever before. Just make sure that you go over it with a fine-toothed comb and use tools like Grammerly or ProWritingAid to catch errors. Also, don’t be afraid of AI. If used properly, it can be your friend and help you edit your work.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Same as what I gave above. Don’t be afraid to just do it.
What are you reading now?
Azure AZ-900 course study material. I am trying to get certified. I don’t recommend the book. It is a bit boring.
What’s next for you as a writer?
That romance novel. I am really excited about getting that completed. Topically it seems corny, but there is going to be a lot of humor and realistic drama to capture the reader’s attention. It isn’t just about a “fairy tale” relationship.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. The Ultimate Survival Manual (Outdoor Life): 333 Skills that Will Get You Out Alive by Rich Johnson
2. Report from Engine Co. 82 by Dennis Smith
3. Emergency!: Behind the Scene by Richard Yokley and Rozane Sutherland
