Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up outside Buffalo, NY and I’ve been active duty in the US Air Force since 2000. I’m a musician, and I’ve been lucky enough to be in the Air Force band program my entire career. I’ve written two books. The Consul’s Daughter is up for sale (self-published) and I’m trying to find an agent to pick up my second book, Across the Sea.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Across the Sea actually started as a short story that I wrote when I was 13. I had the opening chapter and thought, “this could be a whole book”, so off I went.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unusual? I don’t think so…haha…I take my laptop to the dining room table, away from the comfy couch, and just sit and try to write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Jane Austen, Margaret George and Philippa Gregory. Any historical fiction will draw me in.
What are you working on now?
Right now I’m taking a break, I finished Across the Sea a couple months ago. Trying to find an agent is exhausting enough!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use my Facebook page, Twitter account and Google+.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just start writing. Even if you only have a snippet of an idea, go with it!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My husband is a songwriter. I was complaining to him that I can’t seem to come up with an idea for my next book. He said, “It’s because you’re thinking about it too much. Just let it happen. My songs are the same way, they just come to me. If I try too hard it doesn’t work.”
What are you reading now?
The Keys of Egypt, by Lesley and Roy Adkins.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I definitely want to write another book.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Pride and Prejudice and The Blue Castle.
