Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is D.C. and I’m the author of a new series currently on Amazon called Sunset Reads. The first book is based on the couple William and Cristina who find themselves fighting their urges to be with one another although a series of heated moments changes their lives forever.
I grew up in New York, I’m the daughter of two wonderful,Colombian immigrant parents. I’m a traveler, the travel bug hit me a couple years ago and my goal is to eventually see the whole world. So far I’ve gotten to Italy and Japan…I’m thinking Germany next. I started to write as an outlet for being bullied at school and as soon as I started I couldn’t put the pen down. It was always my dream to be a published author, ever since the age of fourteen, and now at 34 I finally accomplished my goal.
I am currently writing my second book in the Sunset Reads serious based on Damian & Layla who you’ll meet in the first novel. I am also delving into a paranormal romance full of Vampires, gods and goddesses and a dark new world. It’s a three part series called A Touch of Ambrosia and I am really excited about it.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest and first book is Sunset Reads: William & Cristina.
It’s kind of funny, but the story actually came up from my struggles with being an author. I have a very wild imagination and I always wanted to either work in a publishing house or be a writer, I had also just gotten over a bad breakup so there goes the first inspiration. My second came when I was watching Superman, I fell in love with Henry Cavill’s blue eyes, so he all of a sudden became my muse when writing William. You’ll meet a little dog named Obi, he’s my real companion, and he is quite a character. Obi will lie by my side for hours while I’m writing and he’s so wonderful I had to give him to Cristina. You will also meet an array of characters from Layla- my best friend- to Henry, whose personality is very much my younger brother’s. This is the first in a four part series and many characters you will get to meet again.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think it’s unusual, but I like to people watch. I love to sit at a coffee shop with a White Mocha frap, and watch people or coupes and how they act around one another. If something catches my eye I go with it and see what arises in my imagination. I also like to listen to people and watch their expressions, those little quirks always make it into my stories. I also play music while I write, I find music to be inspiring and depending the scenes I’m working I can listen to anything from soft pop to Aerosmith.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite book of all time is Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, I have to admit that it was my first taste of romance in high school. Then I really got into the genre, and my favorite authors include Judith Mcnaught, Jude Deveraux, Johanna Lindsay and Susan E Phillips. When it comes to the paranormal, there’s no one that beats Laurell K Hamilton and her Anita Blake Vampire series. I also read a lot of the Darkhorse Graphic Novels- my favorite being the Witchblade and Darkness series. 30 Days of Night by Steve Niles is my favorite.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on the second novel to the Sunset Reads series called Damian & Layla. I’m doing a lot of research on this one because it deals with a specific branch of the FBI- the cyber crime division. It’s turning out to be a very interesting story and I promise many steamy scenes in this one.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m fairly new to self publishing, but Awesomegang has truly been awesome in promoting! I also have become part of Facebook pages, and I work with reviewers on blogs on a daily basis. The best site is Good Reads to find friends, readers and I’ve made great relationships with several authors.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep persevering and don’t be scared to press that enter button and publish your book. Don’t be afraid of the negatives, take them in stride and keep writing. Take those reviews and critiques and turn them into positives. It’s going to be hard at first, but don’t stop. If you stop you won’t get where you want to be.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Don’t count your eggs before they hatch.” When publishing my book I said, I’m doing this for me, because I love to write, if it does well, great- if it doesn’t, then I’ll just try again.
What are you reading now?
Right now I am reading Beast Blood by M.A. Levi…it’s a wonderful YA adventure.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m still working on Sunset Reads which will be a four part series….I ‘m going to continue working on building relationships. Soon I’ll be delving back into my Paranormal Romance called A Touch of Ambrosia, and I can’t wait to present that to my fans!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
